    Why? It's an obsolete format.

It was simply not recorded well enough. Its problems cannot be solved by remastering only. Remixing might help though.

Whether it's possible or not, what is the point? Neil Young's catalogue already sounds great in high resolution digital.

And he will never allow any other mixes other than Briggs'

  6. All the Neil Young albums mentioned already sound fine on CD and I can't imagine an Audio Fidelity gold disc would be much of an improvement. So Time Fades Away it is, just because a gold disc of that album would be a better investment than buying a 4 disc set of albums I already own, just to have 1 album on CD.

    I'd buy it.

Off topic. Is there any NY’s solo CD mastered by Barry?

Yes it was. Perhaps you don’t like the sound mix, but it was engineered just fine

You do realize that Steve already did Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets?

Say what you will but fidelity on Deja Vu, Crosby's album, and Harvest, which came two years later is infinitely better. Gold Rush is very thin sounding... Again, to my ears, of course. Anyway, every Neil's album is great as it is, and the man ensured that we get the best sounding/mastered high-rez versions available.

Here - a resounding yes on my part. This band's oeuvre would really benefit from Steve's touch.

I dunno, but at one point Neil was selling the individual discs from the box on his website for around $35-40 if that's the only material you were interested in. Not sure if he still is.

Seriously, would you invest your money in a project like this? You'd have the discs and artwork printed up ready for shipping and he'd yank permission two days before release date because he just heard about a new A/D converter that supposed to smoke whatever you used.

Looking at Neil's online store, it appears he's only selling the cd version of the Archives now. That said, I also think the Pallas-pressed ATGR vinyl also sounds excellent.

    Probably not likely either :)

I'm happy with my Springfield box set, debut album 2-fer, HDCD Last Time Around and neededrops of the stereo Baby Don't Scold Me, mono Again, and 45's of Uno Mundo & Merry Go Round, Bluebird & Mr. Soul.
