Some of us don't have every last historical release or bootleg or Dagger thing.
In that light these might be interesting; but I'm getting tired of finding some new patchwork thing with a few gems appearing every year.
What was the point of that recent Best of thing. Can't say I was even interested in most of the purple box.
Maybe I'm not the target audience.

    Added contrast and chroma?
    Is it visual brickwall?

Is Kramer going to master this?
Didn't they get Grundman to do a couple recently ?

Remember when I said People, Hell and Angels was the last Hendrix release?

I buy pretty much anything Hendrix. So I’ll get this one too, but let’s call it what it is: scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

    I like the cover, though.

I would have happily and confidently taken out a second mortgage on my house to place a large bet that he was talking pure BS when he said that. I knew what he MEANT was "last studio release of this current licensing deal"

So they re-signed a new deal with Sony and all of a sudden - what an unbelievable and totally unexpected shock - they're putting out a new studio collection. Excuse me while I yawn in surprise at the news.

BTW - that's all aimed at their disingenuous "marketing practices" and not the fact that they are releasing the upcoming disc. I'm actually quite looking forward to it - not as "an album" however. I never listen to these things in the form in which EH releases them. These discs immediately get ripped and then playlisted into several different "themed" collections such as:

1 - My best guess as to what the double album Jimi was working towards would have looked like (allowing for some of the obviously unfinished material that nevertheless appeared on "in progress" hand written by Jimi (& others?) on provisional tracklists.

2 - A single album construction of same, leaving out the most unfinished sounding tracks, resulting in a more overall finished sounding album.

3 - All of the Aug 70 mixing sessions which were unfortunately Jimi's last word on what he saw the final album as being (about half of which were released on the 1st three posthumous albums of studio material that came out in the early 70s, with more coming out since EH took over and it looks like one more on this upcoming release.

4 - All of Kramer's postmortem mixes (with some overdubbing done on a small number of songs) that he used for the rest of the tracks on those 1st three posthumous albums.

5 - grouped by session date or date(s) for example Oct 68 TTG sessions

    ...etc...etc...etc...

I do this for everything that Hendrix himself did not release in his lifetime.

So myself personally I don't much care how the stuff is presented 'officially' by EH anymore, though I wish they wouldn't market this stuff as being "new Hendrix albums", because its just so obviously not true/very misleading, though I'm still glad they keep putting them out as it provides me more material with which to "roll my own".

I'm sure I have a majority of this material. Hopefully it isn't compressed to death.

LoverMan is likely a Band of Gypsies rehearsal version - hasn't this been released on Dagger and circulated extensively before that?

I would've if they'd not somehow made this look like a photo of a Jimi impersonator. As it stands it looks nothing like the man, which is weird (IMO).

I thought it looked OK to start with but the more I see it the less I like it. Looking too processed and not like Jimi the more I look.

I will reserve judgement until I hear this, but I am looking forward to it and if the sound quality of Machine Gun is any indication, having these tracks in great sound quality will certainly be a welcome addition.

very happy. I love 1969-170 hendrix more than anything else he did. why do people keep saying they are promoting this and other releases as new albums? if you look at it like that then I feel sorry for you. I always buy these releases with the mindset its just a collection of tunes they put together and not official albums

This is a studio version from Record Plant, hopefully.
The rough rehersal version from Baggy's was on Dagger.

Years ago, photographer Mike Berkofsky found a mouldy old ektachrome slide from one of his 1967 photo sessions with Jimi. He scanned it and proceeded to clean it up and retouch it. He did an amazing job with the colours and textures but he got the eyes wrong somehow. I told him too. A couple of years ago, when the image was featured in the press, including a front cover of France's Rock & Folk, I contacted Mike to congratulate him, find out more and to advise him to re-do the eyes.
Since those early press released versions, he has come back to the eyes, making them look less wide-eyed and boyish but it doesn't work.
His site with more about the image:

I have the above image as a cutting from Jackie magazine and I sent a scan to Mike who didn't have it!
It seems that only these two photos have appeared from the studio shoot. Mike insisted that it was in January 1967 and didn't want to listen when I told him that it must have been later than that (Spring to Summer '67).

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite Hendrix track, now finally available in all its LP and CD glory (previously found only on 7" vinyl, if that's the mix they're referring to).

    :righton: Way to go!
After that, you could grab an old copy of War Heroes, then Hear My Music, Burning Desire, Blues and the purple box (before getting to West Coast Seattle Boy, Valleys Of Neptune, People Hell & Angels and this new one).
