It always amazes me when I hear something that was recorded so long ago that can sound better than a lot the stuff that comes out these days. And then if you add top notch remastering such as we have here, it becomes something special. What I love when I play one of Steve’s masterings or remasterings, is I know I’m going to get a solid bottom end and a wide and deep soundstage. And within that soundstage , I’m going to hear clearer details. And best of all, I can crank it up! This one fits all the criteria.

Mine should be here Friday, been waiting since October, when I pre-ordered. I've always been partial to the Jeff Beck Group when Rod Stewart was in the band.
I still remember the first time I saw them, it was in July of 1968. Saw them with Pink Floyd and Blue Cheer at the Shrine Auditorium in LA, those were the days. :D

The old Chris Athens remaster and then the bonus tracks version that Peter Mew did.

I'm sitting here listening to the SACD Truth that just arrived.
It is off the charts AMAZING.
    Blown away.
Jeff Beck, Ken Scott, and Steve Hoffman...that's an amazing law firm!

Thank you. The only good prior CD version was the Japanese Pastmasters CD from 1990.

Round two listening this morning with a rested pair of ears.

Wow, Greensleeves, Ol' Man River and Beck's Bolero etc.

Have listened to this album for years and this SACD blows away all previous formats, including my mint A1 Epic vinyl.

Fill out your profile, and let us know what you're listening to it on.

I have an Epic B1 vinyl, and wondering whether I should be drooling.

Yeah a not so great produced, yet great album.......That said, I don't think any Yardbirds was better produced...I look forward to hearing it... I didn't have a lot to say about the album, but I guess posting here gets one a chance at winning a copy of the new production.

Nice. I haven't listened to this album in years either but reviews like this convinced me to order this SACD. I should be listening to it tomorrow and will give my thoughts as well.

Now if only Beck-Ola, the next in-line chronologically, would get this re-mastering treatment, I will be a "happier" camper!

Mine is sitting beside waiting for the new AF "Best Of Scorpions" to finish up. No hurry as it sounds great. Very happy to read that "Truth" is a solid release. I will get to it shortly. Have always loved this album but have yet to get a decent sounding version of it. Bring on Beck with a Les Paul!

Great to finally have access to a solid mastering of this classic prelude to Zeppelin! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

That's what I'm wondering. Is all the rave about the SACD?

Good question although I would expect it to be exceptional...

Ya, I would think the better mastering would show, regardless of the resolution.

Time for some people to just spring for an SACD player and stop worrying about redbook layers on hi rez releases.

No worries here...speaking for myself, I have use for both hi rez and redbook.
    Cheers.

Time for some people to just not post about how others should spring for an SACD player and stop worrying about redbook layers on hi rez releases.
Why else does Audio Fidelity and other's make dual layer SACD's if there isn't a market for the redbook layer?

I guess this makes me a hypocrite, but that's ok, I just want to say it right, even if I'm wrong!

It'd be difficult to know if you're right or wrong. The transition from single layer to hybrid was driven by the fact that the major record companies gambled on wider acceptance...and were able to charge more. This just remained as common practice. It's another form of double dipping (like including a CD with a Blu Ray). Just *maybe* a great many buyers would be just fine with a lower retail price without a redbook layer.

Nevertheless, the remark wasn't directed at anyone in particular. In which case there was no need to take it personally. According to your info, you have an Oppo, which should support hi rez. So not sure why it mattered? :nyah:
