As many have indicated here Bobby Hutcherson in his 60s Blue Note heyday on many a classic session, and Cal Tjader, "Breeze from the East" " Soul Sauce" etc. Some of Gentle Giant's early albums feature vibes in a very intriguing way as well.

Milt's probably my favorite vibes player and the MJQ with Paul Desmond is a good one:

Also, this live outing from Milt Memories of Thelonious Sphere Monk:

    Finally, Milt's big band outing:

And for modern players, there's Warren Wolf, of which Convergence is a great release:

One of my favorite albums of any genre. Percolations (Part I & II) is one of my favorite tracks on any album. Can't go wrong with four percussionists. Allan Holdsworth and Didier Malherbe don't hurt either

As good as the Prestige albums are, I like the Steeplechase albums even more.

Jason Adasiewicz. Like his work with The Exploding Star Orchestra but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Found 0n some
of the best more adventurous jazz releases in recent memory.

Yes, sorry Mr. Friedman. David Friesen is a jazz bassist.

Great album! Karl Berger is the man on vibes
His own albums are worth checking out, as well as his many other sideman dates - with Don Cherry, Anthony Braxton, Carla Bley, etc.

Correct. The bass player of “Double Image” was Harvie Swartz, Michael Di Pasqua played drums and percussion. “Dawn” is a wonderful album.

Of all the vibes players mentioned so far, he's the only one I don't have an album with him on it. I should correct that.

Big fan of him here. I met him when he was playing in London with Peter Brötzmann although I've seen him with his own Sun Rooms trio too.

He can also be found in another interesting group - Klang - with James Falzone on clarinet, Jason Roebke on bass, and Tim Daisy on drums.

These are available on Falzone's Allos Musica label.

An uncle introduced my brother and I to Gary Burton in 1968 with 'Duster' and 'Genuine Tong Funeral'. Duster was a great introduction to jazz with its slightly rockish sound, and 'Genuine Tong Funeral' was a great record to play to freak out some of our friends. The more we listened to them, the more aware we became of great playing, different rhythms and other things in jazz so different from what we'd been listening to the few years earlier. I still listen to Gary Burton quite often.

More albums to buy. I've never heard of Klang before. I too am a big fan of Jason Adasiewicz. I'm envious of seeing him live.

Bobby Hutcherson and Harold Land's San Francisco is one of my favorites; here's the opening track.

Terry Gibb's "Dream Band" did some spectacularly swingin' records around 1959. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
