Any album by the Claudia Quintet, drummer John Hollenbeck's group. Matt Moran is the vibes player and he usually gets plenty of space. It's very much contemporary jazz and very creative. But also quite accessible.

I love early Bobby Hutcherson too. If forced to choose a favorite album I pick Eric Dolphy's Out To Lunch. He's really on fire and innovative here. He plays similarly in a quartet with Archie Shepp on New Thing At Newport (1965?).

Also would recommend Walt Dickerson albums. Jazz Impressions Of A Patch Of Blue, a quartet date with Sun Ra on piano.

And Jason Adasiwicz always catches my ear when he's in a group. He's particularly well-featured on the three Klang albums. Brooklyn Lines is particularly good.

And no mention of Karl Berger? There's a great record from the late 80s with Dave Holland on bass and the great Ed Blackwell on drums called Transit.

Thanks for that. I have some awareness of Klang but have yet to hear anything by them. That rhythm section is very good. Just realized that I have Klang's Tea Music as a "Saved For Later" item in my Amazon cart. Just remedied that situation and placed an order.

Not jazz and only some vibes but this is one of my favorite releases from this year.

    Christoph Sietzen - Attraction
Classical music for solo percussion, and tape on the opening track. One of my favorite of the year. The video below is a 2:46 cut of the 9:56 opening track but it's fun to watch.

I like the Dave Holland albums from the 90s and 2000s with Steve Nelson on vibes. I've never heard any of his albums as leader, just the Holland sideman gigs

Already lots of Bobby in this thread but he's great on Andrew Hill's Judgment!

I have this LP, too. Not only is it one of Milt's best performances, but the sound quality is amazing. I think I paid $8.00 for mine.

I do love the vibraphone. Is there an album with vibes as the lead instrument in that moody, melancholic jazz noir style?

I thought I had most of Duke Pearson's work, but this one is new to me... And it sounds like a winner! Thanks!

A lot of good albums mentioned so far. Great vibraphone players. Gary Burton (already referred to) is for sure one of them.

What I most like in his playing is that most the times I forget I'm listening to a vibraphone. Although I like the classic sound of it.

On this album all sounds (bass,guitar,vibraphone...) merge, we just get lost on the tunes.
Maybe not the best vibraphone album. But the 2 first tracks are among the best fusion/jazz/ecm...music with vibraphone.
