The time has come again SHF, 2017 is rounding up and with it the YE charts have been finalized. The #1 spot saw more turnover than any year since 2013 with 12 songs hitting the top spot. The year also proved to be very male dominated as for the first time since 1984 all top 10 artists of the Billboard year-end were men. The longest running #1 single of the year was Luis Fonsi's and Daddy Yankee's 'Despacito', featuring Justin Bieber, which spent 16 weeks at #1 and dominated the summer, despite this Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' would emerge as the overall best performing single of 2017, with Ed Sheeran coming in at #1 for artist of the year.

Notes: 'Black Beatles' spent a combined 7 weeks at #1, 6 of those however were in 2016. With 'Look', Taylor Swift broke what was one of the longest dry spells for women at the top spot, with her being the first woman to go #1 during September. 'Despacito' is tied with Mariah Carey & Boyz II Mens' 'One Sweet Day' as the longest running #1 single in Billboard history. Both Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' and The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey 'Closer' broke the record consecutively of longest time spent in the Hot 100 top 10 with 33 and 32 weeks spent in the top 10 respectively.

These are the singles that just missed the top spot in 2017, peaking at #2.

    1. Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever ( blocked by 'Shape Of You')
    2. DJ Khaled - Wild Thoughts ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller (blocked by 'Despacito')
    3. Camilla Cabello - Havana ft. Young Thug (blocked by 'Rockstar')

These are the top 10 best overall performing singles of 2017 according to Billboard's YE chart.

    1. Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You
    2. Luis Fonza and Daddy Yankee - Despacito ft. Justin Bieber
    3. Bruno Mars - That's What I Like
    4. Kendrick Lamar - Humble
    5. The Chainsmokers & Coldplay - Something Just Like This
    6. Migos - Bad & Boujee ft. Lil Uzi Vert
    7. The Chainsmokers - Closer ft. Halsey
    8. Sam Hunt - Body Like A Back road
    9. Imagine Dragons - Believer
    10. Post Malone - Congratulations ft. Quavo

If I have time tomorrow, I'm going to sample all these songs and see if I can actually give an informed, critical, open-minded vote!

Not in touch with today's music as much as people my age are, but I went with That's What I Like. Brings back memories from March-April and it had a pretty tricky ascent to the top spot. Rockstar and Look What You Made Me Do were close seconds.

And now Perfect is being claimed as a Ed Sheeran and Beyonce duet when weeks ago on the charts, it was just declared an Ed Sheeran solo song. Checking the charts from October even updates the credits to the duet. Probably a last minute effort to get Sheeran two #1 songs this year IMO.

While it's likely that I've heard many of the others, the only two I recognise by name are Shape of You and Look What You Made Me Do, and the latter gets my vote.
Shape of You is genuinely a contender for my most hated song of all time. I recognise it, because it was on the radio constantly in the early and middle part of the year. I don't listen to the radio, but it irritated the hell out of me whenever I was in shops that had a radio on. Due to playlist strategy, it seemed to always be on at lunchtime. Torture.

It's credited as a duet because the diet version of the song sold and streamed to massive numbers last tracking week. The song was #1 in both sales and streams.

I'll have to pitch for Taylor Swift on that list.
I'm waiting to buy the album on vinyl, so it'll be the only one there I like or own.
A lot of those songs I have very little knowledge of.
The Ed Sheeran (Shape Of You) is insufferable to me.
Rumours of a second variation of the duet (according to the BBC website,
Sheeran cites with, "someone of his father's generation") may push Perfect more.
    Ludicrous!

On another note, the years overall top 10 songs list includes many songs that never got to #1.

Imagine Dragons 'Believer' and Sam Hunts' 'Body Like A Back road' got to #4 and #6 respectively but made the top 10 songs of the year, Believer was one of my favorite songs entirely this year.

At #11 for the year end chart was 'Say You Won't Let Go' by James Arthur, meaning that despite it's #11 peak it would up a bigger hit in the long run that most of the singles that made the top 10/5 this year, 'I'm The One' made it to #1 but charted lower on the YE chart.

"Bad and Boujee". Kendrick had the best #1, but I enjoyed Migos a bit more. Love the interjections.

It's amusing how radio censors the word "dope" but lets "uzi" slide.

Weeknd, Bruno, Cardi and Post round out my Top Six.
