Imho, not a good thing when one company is going to own basically everything. I know it means the possibility of the original Star Wars trilogy available on Blu-ray, but I guess a lot of Fox employees will be jobless soon. This is tragic.
Disney is not going to own everything, or close to everything... They're just going to own more than they did before.
Buying more studios..just like Universal did with several record labels; heck they also own most of classical (Philips, Decca, Deutsche Gramophon) In this case, Fox means not only movies but Fox networks, Sky channels, information and so on...when there's one only master, then it's no good. Imho.
But I just told you there isn't "one master". Disney (nor anyone else) will ever be the only major movie studio.
That's a wrap for BluRay and 4K BluRay. Disney was already known for not releasing its television series on BluRay, and I expect they'll do the same for Fox television properties immediately. Disney is going to support BluRay and 4K BluRay for the release of The Last Jedi, that is already known. But after 2019, when their Netflix clone has launched, what then? The conclusion to the trilogy will probably be used as their incentive to sign up for their Netflix clone. And they'll promise 4K quality on the stream, etc., and many people will sign up. And that'll be it. BluRay and 4K BluRay is dead by 2020.
And Disney will use the (inevitable) re-release of the restored OT theatrical versions on their new streaming service as an incentive for SW fans to sign up too... why bother with an ancillary release with all it's related costs... especially now Fox's distribution rights to all pre-Disney SW films is effectively moot with this acquisition, and the Mouse House now own the 1977 film in totality!? It wouldn't surprise me if that was the plan all along...
Murdoch gets a large stake in Disney. His son is rumored to be the successor to Iger. He keeps the lot, the broadcast tv network with FOX Sports, FS1 and FS2 and FOX Deportes and of course FOX News. He'll be combining those element to create a NEW Fox.
Would Fox still have an incentive to retain their low-rated Sunday night cartoon lineup if they no longer stand to profit from the back end?
Now that is a good question! I assume the answer is "no". I wouldn't be shocked to see those shows move to ABC.
"Family Guy" on ABC? I don't see it. And "The Simpsons" will probably stay on FOX till it's cancelled, for no other reason than posterity (ending on the same network that gave birth to it).
I was about to post this myself until I saw you already did a few days ago. LOL Anyway, The Simpsons has "predicted" a few things in various episodes. The most notorious one was an episode from 2000 in which they predicted a President Trump. Of course after he won last year, in one of the episodes after the election, during the opening sequence, Bart was at the chalkboard writing "Being right sucks." 'The Simpsons' Predicted Disney Owning 20th Century Fox 19 Years Ago
those Disney jokes will never be seen again - though maybe that means we get a big budget Orville movie....
