Pretty psyched about the Dire Straits Hall of Fame induction. I hope they end up doing a live performance with the early lineup.

Yup, pretty glad they ended up in the gallery.

I am glad to hear that. Who was inducted? Just the original four or later members as well?

Cool! I figured only the Brothers In Arms-era members would make it in. Especially nice to see David Knopfler getting in as well.

Bring on a new album!!! :righton:

I would as well but highly doubt it'll ever happen. Mark Knopfler seems content to do solo work and let the Dire Straits legacy stay in the past.

Terry Williams retired some years ago, he hasn't worked with the band since 1988. Mark and Solo work commitments obviously he has moved on, hence the inclusion of founder member Pick Withers and others.

I'll just watch Live Aid DVD portion for "Dire Straits' set for fun of it!

Can’t imagine seeing David and Mark Knopfler appearing on the same stage unless hell has frozen over. All the interviews i’ve read with either of them suggest they haven’t spoken for some years. Mark’s interest in Dire Straits seems minimal. I suppose Hal Lindsey and Terry Williams were less involved in the studio than the other, but their non inclusion is still a shame. My favourite Dire Straits has always been Alchemy Live.

Oh I don't know, Dave and Ray Davies sometimes ended up dishing out right-handers during a session. It's what some brothers do. :)

As for Dire Straits, nothing beats that original line up for me.

Mark has quite clearly moved in another direction and none of his solo records shows great ambition to please. He is basically making music for his own pleasure and is not interested in neither Dire Straits music nor what anybody else thinks, wants or needs.

I'm fine with that as I don't believe he has anything interesting left in him to add to the DS idiom (and probably beyond) and I think he knows that as well and is fune with that.

But they at least had respect for each other throughout the whole thing. Everything I’ve seen regarding the Knopfler situation is that Mark is one step shy of declaring that he doesn’t have a brother.

Well if that's true, how sad. I lost my only brother, we didn't see eye to eye on everything but I would give anything to just pick up the phone and hear his voice. They obviously had much in common at one point.

I agree with what you're saying accept Mark's interest in Dire Straits music. I've seen Mark twice solo and he's played quite a bit of Dire Straits music. Both shows were incredible and I'd go see him and his band without a doubt :)!

I only have Brothers in Arms and was playing it this weekend.

In light of this thread, what are the next two DS albums I should buy? I don't want to do the whole 'Spotify' thing. I just want to commit per some recos.
