Are you talking about the tracks on Rare Monro and Matt Uncovered? I'm sure some of them are in the sessionography if they were recorded as tracks for possible inclusion on an album that then did not make the cut. Other tracks on those CDs are from radio shows, so would be mentioned separately in the radio broadcasts section of the Special Reserve book. I think they should all be in there somewhere.

The Matt Monro biography also came out in a limited edition hardback which included a separate book called "Special Reserve". This includes a sessionography detailing all of Matt's recording sessions.

Not sure it's well over 100 rare tracks. There was "Uncovered", "Alternate" and "Operation Santa" but I don't think it adds up to that many. All of those releases have recording dates included in the booklets, as have all estate sanctioned CD's issued since the Sessionography was published.

There isn't anything that has only been made available for download as far as I recall. Some tracks from a 1980's concert in Manila and from Matt's Radio Show "Matt's Kind of Music" were available briefly as downloads only, but were then issued on the Delta release "Born Free". There are some tracks that were discovered since the publication of Special Reserve, such as the "Reditune" session included on "Matt Uncovered", but all the Decca, Fontana, Parlophone, Capitol, EMI, Dyna and SEI corp recordings are accounted for, as are the jingles (both existing and lost) and soundtrack recordings. The issued live and radio recordings were less informative due to lack of available information, which has subsequently been found.

I keep my manuscript up to date just in case there is cause to re-publish, so feel free to ask about anything you can't find etc.

Thanks. I wasn't talking about tracks that were released as download only (though that information is welcome!) but CDs that are now apparently only available as downloads e.g. the three rarities collections which don't come with pdf booklets and where the 101 individual tracks are tagged with the publication date of the compilations rather than the date of recording.

Mr Mono doesn't seem to have repeated numbers much over the years so I expect I will fit most of them in eventually.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply on Christmas Day - much appreciated!

I am sure they are all there - it is a matter of identification because tracks are described as 'Unissued' when that is no longer the case, thanks to Mr Moore.

I don't really know how popular Matt was around the world, but they certainly pressed heaps
of his Capitol stuff in Australia. He is somebody that doesn't get mentioned much though anymore.
    Cool thread.

An ad shows that there a CD that comes with the hardback. Is it a cut down version of The Singer's Singer Set. Also is the sessionography available seperately?

I'm with you now. Yes the sessionography was released after Rare Monro, but before Matt Uncovered. A lot of the tracks listed as unissued did end up on Matt Uncovered. Out of those that didn't, I think it mostly states that the tracks are lost.

The sessionography is only available with the limited edition of the hardback biography. It is pretty expensive, but they do turn up second hand from time to time (that was how I got mine).

There is a CD that comes with the two books, and it is called (rather confusingly) The Singer's Singer, because it is linked to the book. It is however nothing to do with the 4CD set of the same name. Instead it is a selection of rarities. The audio quality is sometimes less than that on the other rarities albums (which is why Richard didn't include the tracks there), but it is a selection worth having. There are a few tracks on it that are amongst the Matt tracks I listen to most.

Where tapes sources cannot be found it has been necessary to use shellac, acetate and vinyl disc sources, off air and home recorded tapes. Every effort has been made to minimise the defects inherent in the original sources, but some surface noise or tape his may still be evident.

Alternate Monro, I will have to search for on a back up drive, But most will be the same recording date as the originally released version. Rarities is essentially a mix of Rare and Uncovered with a few added tracks which were previously released elsewhere.

Any other releases you need to know about?

  14. Can I just say how fortunate we are to be able to interact in so much detail with someone so closely linked to Matt's material and the estate and to be able to receive such detailed information to questions and queries.

That Richard should feel willing to be so generous with his time for us fans is something that we should not underestimate.

This would be remarkable on any day of the year ... but to have Richard's input like this on Christmas day is extraordinary and something that should be lauded on this forum.

Richard - please understand how grateful we are for your continued engagement with us - we are hugely grateful.

    Best Wishes,

Happy (belated) Christmas Richard. Thanks for that information.

This thread that I started, to discuss "The George Martin Years" being released on CD, seems to have developed into a Matt Monro appreciation thread. Is there any way that a mod can change the thread title?

    Thanks again!

I believe that Love Story & It's Alright With Me were released on the Rarities Collection and When I Look In Your Eyes on the Rare Monro. Also there is an 'unedited' version of Love Story which I think is unique to the Rare Monro CD.

Are there no tracks unique to the Movie collection?

Wasn't 'Bound For Texas' not released until 'The Rarities Collection'?

I think Bound for Texas was on the tracklist for Matt Uncovered right up until release, but was withdrawn due to clearance problems at the last minute. It then was included on Rarities Collection.

Am I right in thinking that the first album 'Blue and Sentimental' has not been remastered apart from the tracks 'Gone with the Wind' and 'My Old Flame'?
