Back-in-the-day I worked for an audio specialist and we were one of the few Mission dealers around. We started out as Mission dealers by selling their speakers, models 70, 70 MkII, 700, 707, 727, 737 and 770. We then added their electronics, at the time we brought in the 778 integrated amp, then the Cyrus line of integrated's and their CD player. We also displayed their high-end turntable ($1k as I recall) and a couple of years later offered a mid-range model and another for around $500 as I recall. It was all great sounding gear. Their speakers became one of our leading speaker brands.

I see Mission still is in business and sells in Europe but it doesn't appear that they sell here in the USA.

Does anyone here still use a Mission turntable, amp or speakers in your system? I'd love to see some pics if you do, please post your photos. Thanks!

Cyrus 7 amp still doing the business here after many years. Always loved the shoebox form, despite a bit of over-crowding around the inputs! Other bits of kit have come and gone, but the 7 has been a constant. Currently driving some Royd Abbots. Keep planning to pick up a PSX-R at some point, but it's never happened....:shh:

I loved the design and simplicity too. Here is a link showing the original design, the 778 integrated which then became the Cyrus series as I recall. mission 778 - Google Search :

They also had a separate pre-amp and power amp, each with the Mission logo as the front panel. Great, classic kit!

Had to replace the sorbothane feet twice. The first time with sorbothane. Now I've got the table on Herbie's Tenderfeet, excellent choice.

This table is still an excellent performer. Currently looking to replace the right-angle DIN to RCA interconnect, the original's ground lead snapped off and it's just the bare wire.

Mission 701 Speakers. I think they were bought over or something and are no longer in the UK.

I still have and love my 752s partnered with the 75AS sub. For home cinema I have the 75C with the 751s on the rear. My Cyrus 3 is on pre duties and the 752s are bi-amped with 90s vintage Cyrus power/psxr combos and the 75C also has an old Cyrus power. I bought a used QPower for the rears but it’s not hooked up at the mo’.

I have two 775 turntables and three 774 arms. Also still have my original 770 speakers. Foam grills have turned to dust however.

I passed on my old Mission 751's to a family member and they still sound great paired with an Arcam CD player and Arcam 7 amp and tuner. I think they (Mission) are now part of the IAG group, manufacturing in China and including others like Quad, Castle, and Wharfedale.

Cyrus are still going strong, and winning awards, with CD players and amp, a new hi spec phono stage, and increasingly into streaming kit.

As above, except to say don't let the country of manufactured put anyone off. Respected designer Peter Comeau is out in China onsite heading up the operation as Head of Acoustic Design for IAG.

I still have some Mission MX1 speakers in storage, but about 18 months ago upgraded my system to floorstanders.

I had some 733 floorstanders bought in the mid 90's . Most of their life they'd been partnered with a Marantz pm310 than a small sony amp. They sound ok. I gave them away along with a sony and cd player , just a couple of weeks ago. They've gone to a good home.

    First post...
    Hi y'all
Still using my rosewood 770's paired with original Adcom separates in my stereo set-up. I had the woofer/kids replaced in the early 90's due to burglar damage - bastards kicked them in! Still digging the sound but thinking of upgrading to floorstanders soon. My grilles also turned to dust decades ago.

I consider myself a bit of a specialist on Mission speakers. I have always liked small, great (sounding of course) speakers for their ability to project a sound stage whilst looking modestly. From Mission I had the 73, 760, 780, 771, 700, M71, M72, M31... and finally settled for the hugely unknown M32i. Coupled to my NAD pre and power amp they left me needing no more (changes).

Oh, and I had both versions of the famous 751 too, and the 732. I may have forgotten a couple. Had some larges Missions too: 773,774 and the M73.

Hi All, I am still using Mission 727 speakers from my brother. They are still going strong with no problems what so ever. I use them with a Hitachi HA 7700 amp. I have a second set of these speakers which Im in the process of fixing up. I also have 733i speakers which I got for £5 at a car boot. I have just got a Cyrus 2 with a PSX power supply so will see how these are soon.

I recently came across a pair of M73's at a thrift shop. I decided to splurge on them ($50) and take a chance after a quick look online to see if they were considered "good" (and I'd still like to find more information on them). I hooked them in and while the bass wasn't as great as I was hoping for I was still impressed (a subwoofer find at the same thrift took care of the my missing bass). Much better than what they replaced (Infinity SM122's), and while still not what I eventually hope to get, they're still an improvement.

No longer a Mission user, but did own a 778 and sold Mission equipment at three of the four shops I worked.

Mission (7 letters) was founded on 7/7/77, hence the proliferation of 7s in the names.

Here is a link to Stan Curtis's page, well known audio designer in the Cambridge / Huntington area showing the "sculptured" 777 power amps.
Stan Curtis, Engineer, The Mission 777 power amplifier

I bought the 778 second hand and used it for few months using it with my first LP12, before trading it for an original (Julian Vereker voiced) Naim Nait, which I preferred.

I remember the 778 as being very heavy and the build quality was a quantum leap over the initial, lightweight Cyprus 1 and 2. The later cast base of the Cyrus range restored the quality feel.

Here are photos of the Mission 778

The Mission DAD 7000 CD player, was built around the Philips CD104.

From memory, the original 770 speakers were very good, outperforming a number of highly regarded more expensive designs.

The smaller and cheaper 700s were very popular.

@hifisoup, do these take you back?

Yes for sure! Each of your photos brought a smile and head nod! We sold all those models and I owned them personally. Great gear. I recall the 7000 CD player was a great sounding unit. A bit fussy as I recall but fun for sure! Thanks for posting the photos!

I bought an old beat up Mission 775LC turntable 3 years ago, without an arm, for $60. I used it as an isolation base for a couple of tables, on account of the sorbothane feet and heavy, rigid plinth.

I recently slapped a Grace G707 tonearm on it, and WOWZA. This thing really sings! Easily as attractive a music maker as my heavily-modded Rega Planar 3 (RB300 arm) and Thorens TD160. Maybe because it's the first time I've put an arm on a table, but I've been listening to it almost exclusively since it came into service.

I'd like to score a pair of Mission speakers for cheap, to have a Mission front and back system. Any recommendations for best Mission bookshelf speakers?

A total Mission convert and fan, now. Anyone got a minty 775S for sale?

I use the Mission 700, a version that to my knowledge was not available in the U.S.
Switched speakers at least 40 times before, but will probably settle with these for years to come *
Tinkered with them to have them sound just about right, and better than more costly speakers I had.

    * Admittedly, I said exactly the same thing a year ago.
