1344 went to NYC. 1345 went to the Baltimore area. 1346 went to Eugene, Oregon. So there doesn't appear to be any geographical correlation.
I'm not sure when Nesmith wrote "Sunny Girlfriend", but listening to his vocal on "She's So Far Out, She's In", I wonder if it was his attempt at writing a song with that feel, with the added benefit of writing royalties.
It's great to hear Davy channeling Lee Dorsey singing "Get of my life, woman" at 2:09 on the "Mary, Mary" vocal overdub session (last track on disc 2).
#84 finally arrived. Nice low number, too. Small dent in lower right corner, but almost not worth worrying about (unless my OCD kicks in to over-drive). Replacement would probably be worse. Now to dig into the goodies.
Sounds like a bad copy tape to me. It sounds like poo and runs slow. My LP sounds a lot better. Rest of the album sounds good though.
No it's not. ML1 mix only appears on ML1. It runs at a different speed and is "vintage" style unlike all the others.
Looking forward to hearing that. The interesting thing about that is, on the previous 2-CD set, there are two stereo remixes, one with the narration and one without. And both are edited differently. One instrumental has the keyboard part and the other doesn't. The keyboard section comes first in one of them, and the no-keyboard section comes first in the other. At least that's what I'm remembering. So I wonder what the full unedited take sounds like.
Headquarters/Pisces is my favorite Monkees era, but I am partial to the 1966 versions of both "Words" and "Valleri." I think they both nailed it.
Maybe it's pieced together or bits have been flown in. The one I'm curious about is "Daddy's Song." The long version on the Head box sputters to a halt, and the comes the slow verse, followed by a reprise. It doesn't really sound like one continuous take, and I can't tell if the reprise is its own recording or just a repeated segment copied from the body of the song.
A few more observations as I progress through this release. 1. Disc 1, track 31 "Sometime in the morning". You can hear Dolenz sing along with Carole King on this track. Her voice is definitely there although not at the same volume as Micky's. 2. Booklet - inside left pic on first page. Peter is "playing" Mike's beloved Gretsch 12 string while Mike is "playing" the bass. This is the first and only pic I have ever seen with Mike holding a bass. Lotsa fun stuff to discover.
That's from the show, when they did "Words" in the first season. The big revelation for me in pics from that session was that, after thinking it disproved reports that he was too short to be seen behind the kit, drumming Davy is sitting on a blanket.
#1292 here. Unfortunately, there's damage to two corners and an area near a third corner of the package, and one dark green wall of the box wasn't tucked in enough, resulting in it being uneven. Pretty sloppy manufacturing and shipping job, but I'm enjoying the actual music. I do wish it had included the full Phoenix concert, the best part of the set for me.
I still wonder why, in that entire "Words" segment from the TV show, Mike does not get a single close-up through the whole song. Maybe he didn't wave enough cash at the cameramen?
Dolenz can't get the hang of the rhythm either, but man, does Peter murder that live version of "I Can't Get Her Off My Mind".
As a Drummer, I am laughing watching Davy fake it on the drum set. But I really like this version of Words.
The more I listen to this set, the more I'm impressed with these new remixes! These are my favorite remixes Andrew has done! As of now here's how I would resequence the album, same amount of Micky and Davy lead vocals just different songs. Much stronger album! Id still leave Words on the 4th album. 1. She 2. Don't Listen to Linda (2017 remix) 3. Valleri (2017 remix) 4. Mary, Mary (2017 remix) 5. I Don't Think You Know Me (Peter sung 2017 remix) 6. (I'm Not Your) Steppin Stone 7. Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow) (2017 remix) 8. The Kind of Girl I Could Love (with Monkees backing vocals) 9. When Love Comes Knocking (At Your Door) 10. Sometime in the Morning (2017 remix) 11. Hold on Girl (2017 remix) 12. I'm a Believer
#873. Perfect condition. No bent corners, no skid marks on the box & no scratched discs. Now for the listening!
