Well, yeah. But there's a lot of stuff on top of it. That'a section of legal bookcase with a dinosaur femur in it. On top of that are a couple of artist books (including one by the painter of the work behind it). I never used the record player anymore so we decided to use the space on top.

Right! Back in the day, those smaller R2R's usually came in some case. Like the Tandberg below ...

Is your Grundig a stereo receiver?

Exactly. And the Grundig R2R shown in my pic had two detachable stereo speakers which added to the bulk. I remember setting it up to
tape FM broadcasts and that thing was HEAVY! And we're not talking Iron Butterfly heavy. :D

These vintage analog gears are so much more interesting than many of the throw-away digital craps we see nowadays ...

I think it is, but with the speakers so close together its hard to tell. We kind of only use it for background music now and then.

But what else can you play in the Grundig console other than records and radio stations?

You would know by having an FM Stereo strength indicator near the dial.

That's about it. What it is though, is a wonderful conversation piece...and a good place to stack your dinosaur bones on top of. :p

My pictures got killed by Photobucket.

Here's a fairly recent picture of my Grundig, now mostly used as a stand for the stereo in my living room.

The tape out from the Marantz receiver is going into the Grundig so I can listen to anything through the speakers. I sometimes use it for 60s music. Also the radio sounds great.

It's a KS752U - solid state from 1967/1968. Here are the pictures that I took and posted last year when I had it set up all by itself in what is now a piano room.

Keeping clean for an eventual refurbish - but I will not bother.

I had my Yamaha DVD-A/SACD player in the compartment. There's a 25 CD changer in there now still loaded up with Christmas music.

It's fun to put it on for old Herb Alpert or other 60s music and the radio kicks butt.

cool! we had a Telefunken when living in Germany. The radio dial on your Grundig looks, to my memory, a bit like the Telefunken's. We also had a "cube" of a record player, a Collaro (sp?) which we bought in England. When we were in Germany, my dad gave me the Collaro for my room, which I put to good use playing my 45's on, constantly. I had that until I finished my first year of college. My memory is fuzzy on what happened to the record player (POS I got at JC Penny) I bought in high school, as that was the one I used for about 3-4 years. How I reverted to the Collaro at the end of my first college year is a mystery to me.

Beautiful unit! Does that Grundig changer sound any good? It looks like it should be replaced with a nice Dual or Thorens or Lenco, if there is space in there.

Re: the Garrard in your Grundig console. A plug and play upgrade. Garrard AT 6, AT 60, AT 40 or AT 40 MK II, or SL 65 can be installed with no alterations. Add a preamplifier/RIAA. and you could use a Shure M 44-7 at 2.5 grams tracking force with the changer serviced and in good order. 4 pole motor, easy and convenient cartridge choices.

The record changer doesn't work in my Grundig. I use it as a stereo stand these days, using the tape inputs to play back 60 stuff with that "console" sound when I want it.

I like the idea of using a magazine rack for the records you are currently listening too, great idea!
