re: "LAUGH" (2017 Stereo Remix) Before the backing vox come to a close with some muttered expletives , listen for a "Gonna Buy Me A Dog" reference at about 2:35
That and Circle Sky. What was up with the "bury the vocals" type of mixes then? Who thought that was a good idea?
Years ago I made the happy accident when I purchased the entire set on itunes when I only meant to play a few of its tracks. Still wish I had the actual box but I don't think Id pull it out to listen to that often.
Well, now that this set is done, what's next? Live 1968? I still want my reunion era (80s/90s/2000s) stuff. Someone tell John Hughes that we're interested. Especially whatever they got on the '96/'97 era.
I think most of us are looking forward tonext is a Headquarters Super Deluxe with remixes that don't hurt your ears, 1967 post MOTM NY session tracks, and alternate HQ session stuff. I doubt that there has been anything for Live 1968 except for the Japanese TV audio with the announcers talking over the first minute of every song. Reunion era stuff would be difficult. The albums aren't fan favorites, and live tracks probably aren't owned by Rhino. I, for one, as big as a Monkees fan as I am, doubt that I would buy a 3 disc Pool It! set. If it is even possible, which I doubt. What would it be comprised of, She's Moving In With Rico tracking sessions?
I started with discs 2 and 3....Haven't played the main event yet. Any consensus on the main album mastering? Is it the same mastering as the 2-CD deluxe?
I too would like Headquarters Super Deluxe next, but make no mistake, I welcome a Reunion Super Deluxe Box set for sure. The reunion box could be put together as a CD/Bluray combo set Then & Now/Pool It! Era Audio That Was Then, This Is Now Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere, Kicks *In the Music Box Disc 4 liner note...it mentions that they were offered 4 new tunes for Then & Now...what was the fourth one? I predict the MOTM Super Deluxe will sell out shortly and eventually be in demand as much as The Birds and The Bees Box. Just my opinion, YMMV.
So is it now possible to compile a super awesome remixed "More of..."? For the remixed tracks that aren't included on this set, are the remixes found elsewhere (such as the "Listen to the Band" box) of similar quality? And that "Believer" remix only on the 45...c'mon! That's just evil. I gotta figure out how to needle drop this thing. I just want a snazzy complete remixed album CD to play in the car, dammit!
FWIW, here's my snazzy/revised "More Of The Monkees" playlist: (I LOVE it) She - Listen To The Band When Loves Come Knockin' [Stereo Mix] - More Of The Monkees [Super Deluxe Edition] Mary, Mary [2017 Stereo Remix] - More Of The Monkees [Super Deluxe Edition] Hold On Girl [Stereo Mix] - More Of The Monkees [Super Deluxe Edition] (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone - Listen To The Band Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow) - Listen To The Band Mr. Webster (First Recorded Version) - More of the Monkees (Stereo) Tear Drop City - Listen To The Band [I Prithee] Do Not Ask For Love - Missing Links Volume 2 The Kind of Girl I Could Love (Alternative Mix) - The Monkees (Stereo) A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You (stereo remix) - Headquarters (Deluxe Edition- [Disc 1]) Sometime In The Morning [2017 Stereo Remix] - More Of The Monkees [Super Deluxe Edition] I'm A Believer [Stereo Mix] - More Of The Monkees [Super Deluxe Edition] I did not do a needledrop . . . too lazy.
The big thing about the 80s era stuff is the live shows with deep cuts and videos, etc. There's already a decent boot out their of Pool It! outtakes/sessions. As for Justus, I like it just fine and there's also video/live and the TV special that could be put into a great set. Rhino may not realize it, but "old Monkees" is what's kept the gravy train going. Probably should pay some heed and respect to that.
Even if they were the mastering would be wildly different. I think LTTB is the last time The Monkees were mastered decently, although I've not heard the new set yet. Gonna peek in my mail box tomorrow and hope it's there.
But it's been said Hughes/Rhino has gotten cold feet since, because the blu ray set didn't sell so well I think.
Oh, I am pretty sure that they realize it. I would be willing to bet that most people have as much 80s-now Monkees recordings and video as they want. It's not like You Tube and the rest of the internet doesn't have stuff from that timeframe out there to be heard/ watched. There really isn't much of a market for official releases of stuff that you can get for free in pretty good shape...
That's why gawd created the "limited edition", my friend. That said, not having an official multi-camera release of Monkees shows from '86-'89, '96-'97, or 2011-2016 is a damn tragedy.
