That's a fun little novelty. Glamour Boy, however, is pretty inexcusable.

They caused an international incident at the Nixon White House. :righton:

  5. The music is good enough lyrically though its an unfair potshot.

  6. Not by a long shot IMHO. I enjoy BTO but they had Burton Cummings singing, great songwriting from Bachman/Cummings, then Cummings/Winter, sometimes just Cummings by himself and, generally more ambitious songwriting as well.

They had a run of fabulous hits. I voted yes.

Four Canadian Number One singles and one in the US. Fourteen Canadian Top Ten singles and seven in the US.
I've never really considered The Guess Who to be an album band - always saw them as a singles machine except for maybe the Troiano career coda. If they did get inducted, good luck getting Bachman, Cummings and Kale on the same stage at the same time.

Supplemental question: If the Guess Who were to get inducted, should B.T.O. get inducted as well ( not simutaneously ) ?

maybe, but there are plenty of artists/bands who deserve to be in there ahead of them.

    T Rex
    Big Star
    King Crimson
    Captain Beefheart
    The Smiths
    Joy Division
    The Cure
    Judas Priest

    etc.

Like The Guess Who, they had one US Number One. The Guess Who had more Top Twenties. That being said, for a brief period B.T.O. might have been bigger in more places than The Guess Who were at their zenith. God save us from having Randy Bachman inducted in any way, shape or form into the RRHOF. He'd become ( even more ) insufferable.

Do they belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Watch this 14 minute version of American Woman performed during a reunion of original members. and you'll have the answer.

I was thought criteria for induction were:

    1. Do they Rock?
    2. Do they Roll? ...and lastly,
    3. Are they Famous ?

    Voted Yes.

They were the first big band from Canada. That certainly meets your first paragraph.

I wouldn't say they're big. They'd be known by a certain age group in Canada and the U.S (where I don't think they'd be very well known by younger generations at all), but they're not known in UK / Europe, Japan, Australia etc. Well, the rest of the world.

I don't really keep up with these type of Who is or isin't in the R&R HOF.

However the thread title amazed me that they weren't in. Obviously a resounding yes. One of the top 5 Canadian acts in R&R history, probably top 3, & arguably #1.

They had commercial appeal with a slew of hit singles & gold albums. They did over about a decade as well. No flash in the pan or Johnny 1 or 2 hit wonder. They legitimately fill a greatest hits LP with hits !

Songs like American Woman, These Eyes, & Undun are classics, oldies staples even now, American Woman rivals other rock gems like Lola, Honky Tonk Women, & Revolution, for the brass ring as best & biggest rocker of it's time.

Not only did Cummings have a voice to rival McCartney, Blunstone & the best of his day, but Bachman was a signature guitarist of the 60s-70s. However overlooked they may be. Not only that but Cummings can play ! Not to mention their top tier songwriting. For awhile they were even on the cusp of cutting edge & trend setters.

Even after Bachman's departure, Burton kept hits rolling well into 73-74 with Star Baby, Road Food & the charming "Clap For The Wolfman" He gonna rate you're record high !

Even after the band's demise Bachman scored nearly as big a 2nd time with BTO & all their hits, while Cummings wowed the American charts with the iconic Stand Tall. Not to mention a string of solo hits in Canada. That were sadly somewhat neglected in the USA market after Stand Tall.

Unless the R&R HOF is restricted to the mythic "25" God's of Rock. Beatles, Elvis, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Stones, Chuck Berry. If it's not restricted to that small group of people. Then YES The Guess Who are more deserving than 80% of the people who've been voted in.
