I'm trying to put me together a Foobar playlist that includes only popular rock tunes that feature a prominent female backup singer solo within the song, but stopping short of a full blown duet.

Three obvious ones pop out at me .... Pink Floyd Great Gig In the Sky (Clare Torry) ..... The Stone's Gimme Shelter (Merry Clayton) ..... and Clapton's The Core (Marcy Levy).

Then I kinda hit a brick wall.

Can y'all help me fill out the playlist by suggesting songs with similar style?

Probably not in the same wheelhouse you're thinking of... but Helen Terry's work with Culture Club comes to mind.

Particularly on 'Church Of The Poison Mind'.

John Mellecamp’s “Cherry Bomb.” Just a couple of lead lines, so not a real duet. But those lines give the song great dynamics.

Not quite what you ordered, but a female singer on an album and with a artist who usually sings his own parts or does mostly instrumental works. Sure glad Steve didn't try to sing this one :)
