    Not really.

In the US, BTO had one top 10, 2 more top 20s, and 2 more top 30s.

That's 5 top 30 singles, all achieved over a brief two-year time span.

They fared better in Canada with 9 top 30 singles, but even there, they started to fade as a commercial factor pretty quickly...

I mentioned BTO's chart success above. I don't think the GW belong, so I see much less reason to think BTO belongs either/as well.

BTO is remembered for 2 songs. If that's the bar for induction, there'll be 100s of other non-inducted bands who merit induction as well...

It still rattles me that rap acts are getting inducted into the Rock'n'Roll hall of fame....I mean....talk about PC....

That is not the criteria for induction to the HOF.

Rap has a huge impact on popular culture, and the HOF is recognizing that.
As stated, the window for nominating and inducting 60s, 70s period artists is closing tighter every year, (not mentioning that only five artists are inducted per year) and the picks will be extremely selective.

Argueably their only great album is American Woman. But Share the Land, Live at the Paramount are very solid. #10 is, imo, also great album. Road Food is too if you're drunk or fried. And that should be a key criteria for the powers that be in Cleveland! As Lester Bangs said:

    1. Do they Rock?
    2. Do they Roll? ...and lastly,
    3. Are they Famous ?

    ( tongue-in-cheek )

    Apparently!

Maybe the name R&RHOF should not have been chosen, in the interest of candor ?

I don't think it really matters. The Rock n' Roll HOF lost a lot of relevance and credibility for me when they started inducting non rock acts.

Percy Sledge is responsible for some of the best music to come out of the studios of Rick Hall's Muscle Shoals and Quin Ivy's studio.
Had 7 songs in top 40 in the R&B charts.
He was an extremely popular star and performer throughout the world.
Well deserved to be in the HOF.
Recommended CD is "It Tears Me Up- the Best of Percy Sledge" on Rhino.
    Check it out.

The original is by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates which IMHO is the superior version.

The Cars are nominated. What did they accomplish? A couple of radio tunes?

Not only nominated, but will be inducted into the HOF.
    Forefront of new wave.

Really. Not in my books. Kind of weak. I reserve Talking Heads as the leaders of new wave.

They were the first New Wave act to be embraced by very conservative FM program directors, at least opening the door a little bit for other artists. And they hosted one really boss episode of Midnight Special!

    The HOF is acknowledging both.
Talking Heads, and now the Cars are both in the HOF.

Two guys (who both covered Shakin' All Over) walk into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, one has been in for decades and the other sadly is not. :shake:

If you'll forgive the 80's baseball analogy, putting them in would be like putting, say, Willie McGee in the baseball Hall... although, frankly, I feel the same about the Hollies, who are in.
