When you cannot move to another house or apt. or city or country because of all of the record crates and the hassle of relocation.
You forget about a record that use to receive frequent rotation on your TT only to discover it was out of place.
when your discussing an album here on the Hoff site, then say to yourself 'yeah, I got that, i'll just pull it out' and you find it to be not there where you thought you had it. then start shuffling between the before and after sections only to realise it's not there. you don't worry about it too much, until you go to bed and start thinking in the back of your head...'where in the hell did I put that??'...... and you start thinking to yourself 'when was the last time I had it out?....' while you toss and turn all night, you going through the process of elimination. 'well I wouldn't have put it there', 'did I have it and got rid of it?????Nah!!', 'did an ex take it with her?......wouldn't think so....' 'where the hell is that freakin' record!!'........
You know you have enough records when you stop cracking them open. For the first time ever in all my years of buying (hate the word collecting) LPs, I have LPs left unopened. Now that I have seen this thread, I am going to rectify that straight away, the only LPs I am going to listen to are the ones unopened. JG
You should always be listening to records while organizing your music. That's one of the best things about re-organizing!
You might have too many records when you make the decision to play one album each day for the rest of your life and you do the math and realize you'll have to live beyond 100. You also might have too many albums when Peaches Records & Tapes went out of business because they ran out of trees to cut down trying to keep up with your demand for crates.
One can never have too many records. One can have a house or apartment that is too small. Make sure your priorities are straight.
When the moving company you paid big bucks to move you twice in one year tells you to call somebody else next time. (They really said that, and that was 25 years ago...)
Hmm, well I don't have a *****, but I definitely have too many records. This week I've been selling off a few unwanted bits and pieces from the collection to make space. So far I've spent the proceeds on, er, records. Oh dear.
You start pulling different pressings of the same albums out of your shelves and have to decide which ones are shelf worthy and which ones are not to make room for more new purchases (or gifts -- I just did this after Christmas).
When you move to a new house and the major consideration is whether the new house has enough room for your record collection.
You know you have too many records when... you build your own 100,000 sq.' storage facility and it's still not enough
...You are more famous than the music artists you collect because of the collection! ...The artists on your albums have paid to come see you.
...You know more about the records than the record companies do who are releasing them. (Then again, maybe that isn't too abnormal). ...You know more about the records than the artists who made them! (Again, maybe not as unusual as it sounds)...
