I used to ski at Whistler and Banff, for me the major difference was the powder lasted longer, or I am just dreaming? Here even after a good snow storm it seems like it will be decently packed down by late afternoon. I too don't get out as much as others I know, for the price of lift tickets I want really excellent conditions; bring on the blizzards!
All of the monuments have to be appreciated in the context of when they were made surely? Whilst the aesthetics of some memorials aren’t to my personal taste, I still find them interesting from a social and historical perspective. I find visiting the Abbey a very moving experience. You can see up close the final resting places for a number of English monarchs going back many, many centuries. It also contains countless memorials to any number of people who made a significant contribution to public life. Many of these are very humble, simply inscribed on the stone floor or walls.
True, and true. But I think it's also true that one man's hero is another man's enemy, meaning that there may be people buried or commemorated there who are worshipped by some but not exactly appreciated by others.
This CD is the best of the bunch. The other entities are lukewarm... Abbado should have gone to Chicago instead of Barenboim.
Now streaming on Amazon, first listen to "Un Tres Doulx Regard" performed by Asteria (Sylvia Rhyne - soprano/Eric Redlinger - tenor & lute) on Magnatune. Works by Dufay, Le Grant, Vide & Binchois
It was a treacherous walk around Gates Pond in Berlin Mass this afternoon in the rain @ 58F. Last Friday it was 11F. Same spot last October. I provided the vapor that day.
Nothing is ever universal or unanimous (including music). But I agree with @julesd68 that is interesting from at least a social and historical perspective.

I have the first 2 MLP boxes, so whatever is on there. Any particular reason you mention them, his performances on Mercury contradict what I said about his playing? Or just a general recommendation I like the Szeryng In Concert box as well:

As my post shows I'm well aware of that, so there's no need to tell me. I was just saying that some things are universal, that's all. Back to the music and conversation.

There is a lively dispute here in the U.S. about monuments to the soldiers & statesmen of the late Confederate States of America.
