They get scale for host appearances. Obviously if you are under contract as a player it's different.

Curious About How Much SNL Hosts Get Paid?

It sounds more to me like you don’t know much about current pop culture, so you assume the people they are bringing in are nobodies.

The musical guests this season have so far included Jay-Z, Pink, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, Eminem, U2 and the Foo Fighters. These are not obscure indie acts, they are some of the biggest names in music.

There are any number of reasons why someone like Tom Cruise doesn’t do SNL... he doesn’t want to do a tv show, he isn’t comfortable performing live, he has no sense of humour about himself....

In addition, I think that the hosts are picked to match the target viewer audience.

Well at this point Tom is not such a big get. But he never did the show when he was the biggest star in the world either.

My problem with SNL's music guests isn't that they are "obscure" (they aren't) but that they are often too old and established (safe). I wish they would take more chances- I'll never forget seeing people like Elvis Costello, Devo, B-52's, Talking Heads, make appearances before they hit it big (although they were certainly being hyped).

Yes, what is this bizarre conviction that the current musical guests are nobodies no one has ever heard of? Would that they were!

Although isn't this the same guy who kept saying that some 10-year-old impressionist was a lock to be a host and would bring huge ratings? This is either cluelessness or an Andy Kaufman level of meta. That you, Zmuda?

True, there were a few quality acts in the first half of the season (Taylor Swift, U2, etc.), and I think Lorne Michaels can be commended for that. Personally I would like to see them on NBC’s SNL site, especially U2.

Did I imagine it or did Rockwell drop the F-bomb in that last skit?

Haha.... I haven’t heard an F-Bomb on SNL since Morris Day and the Time was the musical guests in the early 90s...

How many times has that happened before? I would have thought they’d have a slight delay to catch those.

Kristen Stewart let one slip during her monologue. Recently-ish.

Last year. Before that was Jenny Slate in her first sketch...2008 or 2009.
The show rarely has ever used a tape delay.

Sam Rockwell getting Lorne the FCC fine.

Looks like Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin won't be handing him a jacket.

Yes bekayne, the Charlene Tilton/Prince episode with the “Who Shot JR” parody that got Charles Rocket off the program and left then-producer Jean Dormanian with egg on her face.

In response to your clip, bekayne, well....like the Branniff Productions logo says at the end of SOUTH PARK, “believe it”. I don’t, but yet I do. What a misfire that was.
