I wondered if anyone could direct me to a few decent avant garde web radio stations? It would be nice if they played classical as well. The closest I've come is accuradio.com - Avant Garde Classical, which is really good.
By the way I just bought, didn't pay much, the Music for Lighthouses by Dave Clarkson. Check it out, I think it's pretty cool.
A wonderful show is Destination Out, on WFMU’S live stream Give The Drummer Radio, Sunday 9 Am-12pm. The dj Jeff G. plays lots of stuff that falls into the avant category, but mixes in more trad stuff as well. destination: OUT
Joe McPhee & Raymond Boni - Live From The Magic City (Birmingham, Alabama) Live from the Magic City (Birmingham, Alabama), by JOE MCPHEE / RAYMOND BONI
I have three albums with Idris Rahman from last year,, its one,Wildflower, Ill Considered and Ill Considered Live. All are great. Ill Considered is a quartet.
When I listened to the first track the first time, I thought they sure had changed their sound. I like the first track, I was just very surprised by it.
I've loved everything I've heard with Kristoffer Lo. I don't always see when he has a new release. I heard of and bought his latest album last month even though it came out in March. Surprisingly, it's available to stream. It's hard to find to buy. It's widely available as a lossy download. I found one site that had it as a lossless download and IIRC a few sites with LPs. None with CDs. Lo's web site has it for sale but doesn't say what format. Spotify: Anhedonia
Friedrich Cerha - Konzert für Schlagzeug und Orchester and Impulse für Orchester Schlagzeugkonzert (2011) - Peter Eötvös & Wiener Philharmoniker, Martin Grubinger (percussion). Impulse (1996) - Pierre Boulez & Wiener Philharmoniker.
Evelyn Glennie / Jon Hemmersam / Szilárd Mezei / Michael Jefry Stevens - The Core-Tet Project Dame Evelyn Glennie - Percussion (Scotland) Jon Hemmersam - Acoustic Guitar (Denmark) Szilard Mezei - Viola (Serbia) Michael Jefry Stevens - Acoustic Piano (USA) I bought this because of Evelyn Glennie who is my favorite percussionist. The others are all free jazz/avant garde artists, none of whom I've heard before. The music is completely improvised. Naxos is an interesting label for this music to be on. They do put out some jazz, but it's mostly pretty mainstream and this is not. My guess is that Evelyn Glennie put this together and proposed it to Naxos since she's recorded for them in the past. One of my favorite genres so I'll be buying it. I just have to decide on CD or $2 mp3 download. Too bad it's not available as a lossless download anywhere I can find.
Here it is: Friedrich Cerha: Percussion Concerto & Impulse - Kairos: KAI0013242 - CD or download | Presto Classical
John Escreet – Sound, Space and Structures (Sunnyside Records) — John Escreet - piano; Evan Parker - tenor & soprano saxophone; John Hébert - bass; Tyshawn Sorey - drums Very nice.
The Vulture Club - Live Young, Die Fast And Leave An Exquisite Corpse Awesome disc of blackened, pummeling guitar drone. Killer stuff! Live Young, Die Fast and Leave an Exquisite Corpse, by The Vulture Club
scompton, in case you want a digital booklet (Presto apparently don't offer it), you can download it here (just underneath the Add To Cart button) ... FRIEDRICH CERHA: Percussion Concerto et al I have the CD and it's the same booklet.
