Continuing the yearly tradition of discovering new music via this thread, here is the 2018 edition! Every year this thread is an excellent resource to find the best new music being released, let's further that. A bunch of albums have already been released, and a few more coming Friday... Most of you know how this thread works, but here are some quick guidelines that'll help this thread to go smoothly: 1. Yes, at the end of the year, it's nice to post your year-end list, but moreso, this thread is a valuable resource as the year progresses. As such, please no threadcrapping about how this thread is too early when it's obviously not. This site is an invaluable resource to finding what albums are out and will be out every week: New Album Releases, New Music 2. Youtube links, album covers, and/or text describing the album you are mentioning is much appreciated! That way sampling the albums in question is made easier. What's not really that helpful is popping into this thread and posting an obscure album title and artist without any other information. 3. Please keep the thread positive. I mean, if you were really disappointed by an album, sure, go ahead and mention that you weren't a fan, and give reasons why. "______ album sucks" comments are not worthy of being posted here. Also, please steer away from things like "most overrated albums of 2018" lists and such here. 4. While posting your most anticipated albums is fine, just don't do it too often. Let's dig in! What have you liked so far?
The upcoming Led Zeppelin album of unreleased tracks (could be studio and/or live) The new Jack White album The new Breeders album The new Butthole Surfers album
I haven’t heard anything new this year (except today’s Jack White single), but I’m hoping the new Arctic Monkeys album will come out this year.
I’ve bought two albums and a single so far this year. I haven’t listened to them yet though. There are a bunch of albums in bandcamp that are preorder that I might buy once I can listen to more than 1 track. The one track is very good for some.
I've pre-ordered the forthcoming Brownswood Recordings compilation, We Out Here, showcasing London's DIY jazz scene. There are some wonderful performers on this that my wife and I saw perform in 2017, plus some artists that we've not checked out yet.
Heard Typhoon's Offerings the other day, and it's a pretty good indie rock record. Interesting concept, ambitious scope, excellent songwriting and arrangements - good stuff.
Maybe the first great psychedelic release of the new year, with a kaleidoscopic sound reaching back to some of the motoriffic krautrock pioneers, but with a more modern big beat vibe that's both spacey and funky, Psychic Lemon Frequency Rhythm Distortion Delay ...
Looking forward to the new Guided By Voices album in March. I really dug the last two after being lukewarm on many of the reunion-era albums. Here is the first song previewed:
Looking forward to the new Yo La Tengo album also; the two songs I heard previewed at the Hanukkah shows were pretty low-key
New self-released album by Supervitesse - "NorNor". If you are into psychedelic pop like Stereolab, Death & Vanilla, Broadcast, Candy Claws, etc. you would like. NorNor, by Supervitesse
Way too early, but the new albums from these artists have the potential to make my list: No Age Car Seat Headrest Superchunk Blood Orange Marianne Faithful
New albums by old bands coming up soon that I'm looking forward to: Simple Minds - Walk between worlds Manic Street Preachers - Resistance is Futile
Heard BØRNS' Blue Madonna today, and it's a fantastic pop album. Hellishly catchy songwriting with lots of hooks.
The Durutti Column "The Guitar & Other Machines" (Factory Benelux) 1/12/2018. A reissue but I've really been enjoying this one. Durutti Column, The - The Guitar and Other Machines (Deluxe)
