"The band was reportedly told not to supply its own lighting for the show, so the stage is quite dark, lit solely by a red spotlight. And in some ways, it gives their performance a haunting quality. The concert, which clocks in at a little less than 90 minutes, is occasionally cut with footage from the festival site and the audience, which paints a fuller portrait of the event."

Here's a couple sentences from that review that made my head spin.

several people in this thread were saying that would probably happen and we were told by patsradio it wouldn't

Really, where did I say it wouldn't? I said we don't know.
Is that what I said? Interesting. Not quite huh? There is no way to say what was captured or not unless you've seen the original reels which you or I haven't however, I do know I didn't say what you said.

Hendrix mentioned something about the lights being too bright in his eyes and not being able to see anyone beyond the first 50 feet or so (400k people out there!) I haven't heard the Doors boot of this concert but I don't know if Morrison was detached from the audience, he likely just couldn't see a damn thing. Thus the request to turn he lights off.

The DVD has footage for 3 or 4 songs (sadly, everything that was filmed) but also has the full show as an audio only option.

you gave a quote from an article about the release that implied there were no audience or venue cuts after several people mentioned they know the entire concert wasn't filmed. I myself don't care and have it preordered already

Next time get your quotes right before saying what people said or didn’t say. Thanks.

Didn't they miss filming the complete sets of Hendrix and the Who at the event? I think they filmed as much as they could for the "bigger" acts but it should not be a surprise if some of the footage is missing.

Can't fault them for what wasn't filmed back in 1970. However, if there are indeed two songs that are missing on stage band footage entirely, then they should have at least mentioned it in the press release.

Either way, I'm buying the Blu-ray. Pro-shot/multi-tracked Doors shows don't grow on trees and this might very well be the last we see officially released.

Sigh, just because they cut to audience or crowd or whatever doesn’t mean they don’t have the film. Director could have wanted some shots during the film which I like personally so some footage would be cut out. It doesn’t mean they don’t have it. Again, Murray said 2 yrs ago it was filmed in its entirety. He saw the footage. I believe it.

I don't have a problem with crowd shots interspersed here and there. That's fine and to be expected. However, if it is indeed two full songs missing band footage (we don't know yet), then that probably should have been mentioned in the press release, IMO.

    A sign of the times?
This DVD/BluRay isn’t available in Australia to order or buy as of yet.
I have noticed a steady decline of actual concerts being issued on DVD at all.
The Grateful Dead documentary was never issued on DVD

They don't grow on trees? It seems like The Doors release a 1969-70 show every year. Maybe it's me. Lol

Hendrix has 2 songs missing, plus the Hey Joe encore is only a single camera wide shot. The official double CD has every Jimi song performed in correct order.

As for the Who....6-7 songs missing and a they jumbled the song order.

I'm a big music DVD/blu collector, but I'm also aware they don't sell very well. DVDs stuck in box sets drive me nuts like the new Dylan, Pretty things or Fleetwood Mac.

Small things like punk 1980, Sonny Rollins and Al Green vintage documentaries recently came out on blu from the MVD label. Yet major projects like live shows from Swift/Timberlake/Buble are streaming exclusives because netflix of whoever threw money at them.
