I sometimes bring the wife, and my son has been there. They don't need to be audio geeks - just enjoy music they like, and sounding better than they've ever heard it.

It was a beautiful trip, even though summer heat in Arizona reached 108 degrees F. But more than fun and beautiful, it fulfilled a fantasy that I have had since I first started riding motorcycles in high school. I had always wanted to be completely self-sufficient on a motorcycle trip, touring with sleeping bag and tent, and finding campsites along the way of a cross-country adventure. When I look at the pictures above, I feel so proud of myself that I bought the right motorcycle to do it, and it turned out every bit as wonderful as I had imagined.

I have fallen off a motorcycle MANY, MANY times in my life, mostly dirt bikes. But, I have always had good protective clothing, and never got hurt from falling off. Even the Kawasaki 1400 shown above, I have fallen off a few times, just coming to a stop, because it is so heavy for me. My foot might slip on a sandy surface, or I might misjudge that the road is tilted, not level. I don't suffer any pain from it, but the motorcycle sure gets scratched.

The audiophile equivalent is accidentally dropping the tonearm on a record and seeing your valuable record getting damaged by your even MORE valuable cartridge flying across it. The record is like the motorcycle; the cartridge is like your body. As much as you are glad the cartridge seems to be ok, you are horrified that now there is a little scratch on your previously perfect record.

Huh, it's literally an audio home! How very clever! I'll have to stop by, you're not that far (plus my buddy lives in Fullerton).
I rewrote your blurb a bit, and think you should put something like that on the site :)

I'm curious, if someone comes in and gets excited about audio but can't afford those products, what are you going to tell them? You have no interest in any other products to set such folks up with until some fine day when they can afford those items?

Well, I don't sell any cheap stuff. I don't LIKE any cheap stuff. I am really a specialist for VERY GOOD sound only. Anyone who comes to The Audio Home will understand that I can ONLY provide help recreating awesome sound in the home. That is why I don't expect every visitor to buy something from me. I just expect visitors to appreciate that there is a world of audio out there that only a select few can own. To personally own THIS kind of sound, you either have to be wealthy, or you have to be sincerely devoted to the hobby.

Anyone who wants to compromise in sound quality, just to get music playing in their home, has PLENTY of other places to shop.

If someone asks me how to save money, and get very good sound on a limited budget, I tell them to buy used on Audiogon or Ebay. Everytime they buy a high-end component used, that seller can go to a dealer and buy something new. So, it is fine with me, if my visitors buy used instead of buy new. I advise beginners to get started at low cost. If you don't want to spend much money or you are not sure how "into" high-end your interest lies, buy older high-end equipment used. I cannot lie about this, because I always bought MY equipment used, until I became a dealer... in fact I still do. I STILL buy used equipment when I see something classic for a good price.

This is my style. I am an audio enthusiast first; an audio salesman second. And I fully realize that the equipment I sell is not for everyone. But, I find that everyone who visits, and listens, can appreciate it, if they have any kind of ear for it. And it's fun. So, in the long run, a few initially only curious listeners will finally come back and buy from me, and become dedicated Audio Note or Voss Audio fans.

An I Zero amp, with AX Two speakers and DAC 0.1X and some Lx cables and IC would be under $5k.

This sounds really good. But apparently getting the speakers is a bit difficult right now. AN K/LX isn't ridiculously priced either. An AN system for less than Sogon cables.

Glad you are home Warren. Keep banging away at the keyboard about your passions. Your perspective is interesting, valuable, and compelling.

One more slight motorcycle diversion as my avatar hints to my two major life-long interests, music and riding. We east coasters don't enjoy the riches you left coasters have, but I do make time once a year to get out of my peninsular prison to enjoy the Appalachians where there is some lovely technical riding to be had. This, about 12 years ago on my first BMW at the top of the Cherohala Skyway.

Later this morning, I'll be visiting @SandAndGlass on one of my two current bikes in the stable: my old BMW R90/6 or the Ducati ST4S. He's going to school me in tube appreciation.

BTW @lonelysea, that is a stunning PD.

I hope to get to California and environs to explore more on two wheels. I've made it to Utah and Colorado, but the rest has been mainly in the Midwest and South East, closer to home. That's how motorcyclists should think, regions, not neighborhoods, if they are doing it right. It's all about perspective isn't it?

Thank you for expressing your enjoyment of my writing. By the way, I am crazy about both of your bikes, and have considered each of them for wanting one myself. How would compare your feeling about a 3-hour ride on each of them, vs. just the eye-candy appeal of each? I suspect neither one has quite the comfort nor the sheer horsepower of my 1400, but they sure look a lot nicer and not so heavy and unmaneuverable as mine.

No, they don't have the brawn nor polish of your Concours (which I've ridden - fantastic motorcycle), but with the reduced weight, wheelbase and that race inspired 996 L-twin, the Ducati is a fair bit more visceral. I've finally got the Duc dialed in so I'm comfortable on it for most of the day, but make no mistake it is still a frantic motorcycle. I gave up the big BMW RTs as their wind management was too effective for hot 'n steamy Florida. I can breathe behind these two bikes, and they are a breeze to maneuver. The only problem with the R90/6 is that it doesn't actually stop! The ancient brakes are an issue, so loping around on the back roads is it's mission. I suspect my torrid love affair with the Duc will succumb to something more sedate now that I am AARP eligible this year. It's a whole lot of fun, but I don't smell too many roses while I'm on it. I'll likely settle on a new R1200R.

Along the way, I recommend the area around Monument Valley. Caveat: I can't speak from experience since although I like motorcycles very much I don't ride myself. But driving through there is one place that I would really like to try it-it seems so open and yet scenic. Sonora Pass north of Yosemite also seemed like it would be cool...well, really twisty, maybe tiring, but the top really neat. And of course, Pacific Coast Highway (once repaired) up from the must-see Hearst Castle through Big Sur to Carmel and Monterey. Be sure to do that on like a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday morning for less traffic, and to allow stops along the way. And if you get out to L.A., PM me and I'll buy ya dinner.

Utah. Like nowhere else on Earth. California Highway 1 you can sort of see elsewhere, but not the Utah scenery.

I lived in San Diego a couple of years in the mid 90's, and although I had very little time off, I did manage to take a roadtrip through some of the SW including Utah, which particularly impressed me. But it was way too rushed, and for many years I wanted to come back. In the summer of 2016, my wife and I finally made it back, and it was even better than I remembered. Scenic Byway 12 and Highway 95 are spectacular.

There is the more-and-more popular international travel experience, now, of European travelers to the USA renting motorcycles (BMWs or Harley Davidsons) and choosing a long-distance scenic tour. Mostly, I think, they choose a western part of Route 66, through Arizona and New Mexico. My highlight on Route 66, of the various sections I've experienced by motorcycle, was Oatman, AZ. It is the ultimate re-populated Ghost Town that I have ever seen (better than Jerome, because Oatman is not over-touristed), with an incredibly scenic and winding highway leading to it.

I recommend a day on Route 66, between Needles, CA and Flagstaff, AZ, including Oatman, to anyone, driving any vehicle. From a purist point-of-view, travelling any section of Route 66 from east to west is always best, because that is the direction most of its original transcontinental travellers saw it.

Its ok, not a hijack. In my opinion, this entire thread is about anything that metamorphises from my Audio Home, my audio philosophies, my medical problems, my personal life, and my interests. Utah is DEFINITELY one of my interests, too. Actually, California, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico together, have SO MUCH and SO VARIED natural beauty, nobody from other countries (anywhere in the world) can imagine -- except maybe people from China.

Do you know how to say "The United States" in Chinese? It is "Mei Guo". This translates to "Beautiful Country".

Well, to contribute something remotely audio-related, I can add that I drove that Utah trip in a 1976 Chevrolet Malibu Wagon where the car radio didn't work. So no music along the way (and obviously no podcasts, which is what I listen to mostly when driving these days). But somehow I didn't miss it--it made me focus on the landscape I drove through. The AC was not working either, so that also meant that I got a good "feel" of the landscape and the environment

Warren, hope your recovery is going smoothly. Keep us posted on when you are well enough for visitors - I'm dying to get back to the Audio Home to hear your AN-E's and see how my new Speaker Kit-04's stack up. Have you received an OTO Signature yet?
