Took the plunge and ordered a copy of the big MOFO now that the price is down to something more reasonable. In the mean time, taking a respite from Roxy and listening to Uncle Meat > Burnt Weeny Sandwich > Weasels Ripped My Flesh.
NP: A Token Of His Extreme ...the list of music I want to listen to continues to grow as my ears really don’t want to hear anything except for Zappa at the moment.
...I’ve got the 2-disc version, but something keeps telling me I WANT both Who’s got the good deal on the 4-disc set?
Burnt Weeny Sandwich ....anyone know of a website that breaks Frank’s albums down track by track and offers insight into lyrical meanings etc.? Most likely a mega-fan site.
Lumpy Money, which arrived today. Listening to the dedicated mono mix of ....Money is a bit of a revelation: I've never been so struck by the day-for-night difference between stereo and money (in mono's favour, btw). The vocals are so much clearer - now I can hear ALL the words in Let's Make The Water Turn Black.
...thanks! Been there many times for release info., but I don’t think it dissects each album song-by-song with information behind lyrical content etc. correct me if I’m wrong please. I’ve just never seen it.
I would say no. Nor will you need "We're Only In It For The Money". Then again....they are all very different mixes or takes on many if not all tracks though (and I love this set!)...so if you like the originals...so yeah, on second thought I would say yes...both! And the Lumpy Money box is so nice!! Of course I have the vinyl too - so if you are a completist...for those who love Zappa? Who isn't!
Just bought a copy of Feeding the Monkies at Ma Maison about 3 weeks ago, and have spun it about 3x so far. (Even) Better than Jazz From Hell, mostly. (Reminds me I need to spin Civilization Phase III one of these days, since it's been a couple years.)
...great timing. Was attempting to keep the ABA thread alive and it’s up to this album. You should post a nice track-by-track review. No pressure Frank Zappa: the 75th anniversary album by album thread
Someone upthread referred to enjoying the 1984 remix (with 'added' bass and drums) of WOIIFTM. I'd assumed that this was just a politically-incorrect curio - but, having just listened, I love it. The album actually sounds even more psychedelic than before! Even when he tampered with his own history, FZ knew what he was doing....
Perhaps 'the mists of time' have made this a little more 'easy-on-the-pallet' for you...BUT, I first heard this by purchasing "The Old Masters" box set.... and, let me tell ya'... I was PISSED! I assume "Star Wars" fans feel the same way about the adding of 'things' to their beloved movie.... But, that was the young, teen-age 'me'!....
