That's exactly what I thought. Jack White may be a favorite for some, but there are a thousand guitar players I would have chosen beside him.

Just watched again the movie. The Edge seems to be a nice person. He’s a great guitar player. But, man, in some moments I have remembered the “Donny, you’re out of your element” line from The Big Lebowski. Blues, raw rock and roll... and then The Edge doing his thing. He’s out of his element.

Suggestions to replace The Edge with someone bluesy in nature would make this the most one dimensional movie about guitarists I can think of. Page and White are already too close in style for my comfort. If they really wanted a varied slice they would have picked a 60s/70s guitar hero ala Page, an 80s virtuoso/technician and a modern atmospheric player like Greenwood.

Or dropped JW for James Dean Bradfield. He ain't bluesy, and he fits the ticket of being vety famous.

LOL. Good analogy. Please do not bring on the woodchipper scene from Fargo! :ignore:

My thoughts exactly. I like White as an artist but a lot of his roots are similar to Page and as a guitarist he doesn't bring much to the table that Page hasn't done in a similar style much better. IMHO.

Jack White brought his story to the table( he's a renaissance guy, record label owner, musicologist type) and he brought the youngsters.

I love The Edge. That early U2 sound... they don't get much love on these threads but I can make up for some of that.

    Can't think of any.

Bono and Edge were kind of a package deal, and seemed to have worked out well.

Jack White gets stuff done, his way. Maybe not the best guitarist ever but he gets it and respects it. That's why people show up for him.

It's poser Jack White that needs to go

Put Nels Cline of Wilco or Annie Clark of St Vincent in his place

Unfortunately neither of them were famous enough in 2008 to put moviegoers' butts in seats. People are throwing out some interesting suggestions that would've made for an interesting film, but generated next to zero buzz. I got off the Wilco train after YHF, but St Vincent would've been an interesting choice had the movie been made a few years later.

Ya, and he is the kind of guy that would "fit in" well with other players too. Jack White is an a******, and the Edge is pretty "one dimensional" (imo).

Yeah...I think some of the people here are sorta missing the point of what It Might Get Loud was supposed to be all about. I'm not a big Edge or Jack White fan myself but I can see why they were chosen to participate alongside Page. It was supposed to be a generational type thing. And, speaking of Jimmy Page, there were probably a few people who saw the film who were thinking "Gawd, who is this old fart who looks like the Quaker Oats mascot hanging out with The Edge and Jack White?" And people complaining about Edge or Jack White's guitar technique -or lack thereof- need to take a good listen to "Hot Dog" or the July 7 1980 version of "White Summer" if you want hear Jimmy Page in guitar antihero mode.
