That's a great tune too, and I guess someone posted their classic "Black is Black". Another great 60s Spanish band is Pop Tops, with soul influences:
Beatles-influenced California band The Dovers (from my town of Santa Barbara!) put out 4 great singles during 1965-66 (none of which charted nationally) and a few of the tracks have been posted here. Here's one of my favorites, from 1965, "I Could Be Happy", a pretty folk-rock number:
Teddy Randazzo was a singer/songwriter and sometime actor who co-wrote such tunes as Goin' Out Of My Head, Hurt So Bad and Gonna Take A Miracle among others. He spent some time in the Islands and so many of his songs were quite popular on the airwaves here. This is one of my favorites from around '63.
I remember that one from way back as well. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've heard it in the intervening 50 years! Maybe even zero. I think they were referred to as Los Pop Tops here. I'm listening to your YouTube link right now. Not bad, although I definitely prefer Bring a Little Lovin' ...
The Poor had some underrated material including this minor hit “She’s Got the Time (She’s Got the Changes).”
That's great! So is What Am I Going to Do, but it's already posted in the thread (not by me, I'd never heard of it). I got a couple more to listen to ...
John Deen and the Trakk - Your Whole Life Through (a bit of a guilty pleasure - but it has such a nice pop melody!)
Spanky & Our Gang - Leopard Skin Phones Spanky & Our Gang - If You Could Only Be Me The Leaves - Lemon Princess The Leaves - To Try For The Sun The Turtles - Give Love A Trial The Turtles - Too Young To Be One The Left Handed Marriage - Appointment The Left Handed Marriage - She Was Once My Friend Smile - Earth Smile - April Lady The Christmas Spirit - Will You Still Believe In Me
Very nice melody with a laidback vibe and lovely harmonizing! I like The Tokens' rendition as well...
It's interesting how subjective and personal music can be. Nowadays I rarely share things that I think are good because most folks couldn't care less. The last time I did, I introduced a friend to two songs, neither of which he liked. He commented that they were weird. The Tokens "Now Nice" The Tokens - How Nice (1968) High Socidgh "People Passing By"
I worked with the bassist for this band for about 2 years before he retired in 2010. I only found out he did this when someone else said oh yeah he was in a band in the 60s. Local cut out of Cabell County WV
Keep sharing. You never know when something you post will strike a chord with someone else. This tune, for instance, was one I've been scouring the net for years to no avail. I put in the words People Passing By and got zip. I even asked forum members but got no responses until a couple of months ago when someone posted this. See how close you came? Anyway, I was 13 when this was on the radio but never heard it again except in my head. I actually began to think maybe it was all in my head!
Yeah, it's fun to be reintroduced to good songs of yore that have slipped into obscurity. This happened to me a lot during the dawn of the compact disc era, especially with great compilations being issued by the likes of RHINO and VARESE SARABANDE among others. By the way, I recently bought a compilation of Graham Gouldma penned tunes featuring "People Passing By", and I recommend it. The SQ is good and it's in print. Classic 'bad trip' vibes. If anybody wants to get that "doomy" sustained fuzz guitar tone, I replicated it by running my 1964 Fender Jaguar through a vintage Fuzzface fuzztone pedal into a 1965 Sears Silvertone amp with the amp tremelo turned up to the 'fastest' setting. Deadly fuzz sustain exactly like this record.
