I was very impressed with Banshee..great cast. Never heard of Antony Starr before. Very entertaining series I thought.
Some favorites: Northern Exposure (Just binge-watched all 6 seasons...quirky and still side-splitting.) Rome John Adams WKRP Barney Miller West Wing The Newsroom (Only 3 seasons. Jeff Daniels shines, esp. in the debut episode) Blue Bloods NYPD Blue (Every character change was flawless...) Grey's Anatomy Band of Brothers The War All in the Family The Jeffersons I am certain some/all have already been mentioned.....hope so.
Amazon Prime's Electric Dreams....Sci fi anthology show inspired by stories by Philip K. Dick. Sort of Twilight Zone-ish. Ronald D. Moore produced. To state the obvious, just like TZ some eps are better than others.....
Not available on disc is Sense8. Anybody see that drama / mystery? Looks to be a 3 season ( 2) series.
Have you seen Quarry? I believe it's been cancelled after only one season but it was very good. Kinda had that Banshee 'vibe'. How's about Preacher? Has its ups and downs but ultimately is pretty entertaining. Amazon Prime often runs a '1st 3 months free' promo. I had ordered an item and they offered free shipping if I tried it so I figured why not. Long story short, that was a year ago and currently I use it more than Netflix!
Sense8 is visually impressive, but it didn't work for me. Couldn't even make it all the way through the first episode. Obviously YMWV. Some people love it.....
You only watch things on disc.....?? Anyway, a recent show that's on blu-ray that's slipped through the cracks somehow is Da Vinci's Demons. Good show. Deluxe production. Kinda graphic novel style. But don't expect realism. There's about 20% of real Leonardo stuff mixed in with c. 80% fantasy....The first season is available from amazon on blu for c. $12. Maybe worth giving it a go at that price imho?
I'll second Animal Kingdom as someone that normally doesn't overly enjoy crime drama and action. Its taut plotting and gripping action sets it apart. Animal Kingdom: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Review - DoBlu.com
Quarry- Cinemax again. Looks good, pity only one season. Preacher? Don't like Dominic Cooper, saying that I've been wrong before.
I've never seen Bloody Mama, but the plot synopsis on IMDB makes it sound vaguely similar. Animal Kingdom is basically Point Break crossed with the Godfather.
