Yeah, music millennium is actually fairly close to union station. You can make it if you make smart transportation decisions.

2nd Ave used to have a phenomenal metal selection. Still a cool shop.

Music Millenium has more space but IMO 2nd Ave is aces. Cool staff, strong selection, great atmosphere and always awesome tunes playing.

I like both but I enjoy 2nd Ave more.

Never been to 2nd Ave - should I skip Powell's next time and go there instead?

It depends. If you're a book fanatic...Powells is Disneyland.

Loads of record stores. But as Merrick says, it's a cool vibe. They'll ask "do you want to look at the CDs?" - & bring out a giant box from behind the counter.

I live in West Portland & go there about every couple mths. Always find something, then swing by Voodoo Doughnuts & bring home a pink box for the fam.

    Everyone wins.

Wish I'd seen this thread a day earlier. I would've recommend to the OP that he take that taxi to Crossroads Music!

Not a total loss - now there's one more place for me to check out next time in PDX

I would too, but we aren't on Hawthorne any more (forced out by developers). We're now at 8112 SE Foster in a a larger, nicer space.

Bummer you had to move but glad for the update. I'm in PDX every couple months and Crossroads is always a stop on my list!

    Well, there's always tomorrow.

  20. It's OK. Quite good for 80s music, new wave, punk, & alternative, and it's decent for other things, too. I prefer some other stores in town (like Music Millennium and Lord Hawthorne's place Crossroads), but it's definitely worth a visit

2nd ave has the best prices in town for new music, hands down. not a lot in the way of used, however.

Music Millennium is about 2 blocks from Powell's.

Be sure to check what bands are playing at the Crystal Ballroom. You can see the marquee right from MM's front door.

I “think” you’re referring to Everyday Music that’s across from Crystal Ballroom, & down from Powell’s. Jackpot may be the other one you’re thinking of nearby.

Of course, we used to have the Music Millennium on 23rd, which is the one I used to always go to - as I’m on the West Side just over the hill from that old location. Ironically, some big retail chain popular with the youngsters called Urban Outfitters is the only place over there with Vinyl now...I’m pretty sure.
