Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence? Hollywood would ruin it with PC.

The first installment was very interesting because it was released before the Hays code kicked in, so there were some clever double entrendres in the dialogue that would not appear in the later films of the series.

No. They likely need more restoration before being blu ray ready.

Tremendous fan, I've seen all six films multiple times and the TV series as well. I also enjoy all of the radio adaptations.

If the Thin Man TV series from the 1950s is available somewhere I'd love to watch it. Not to be confused with the Third Man tv series of similar vintage starring Michael Rennie.

I've had the box set of DVDs since it first came out. Lots of repeat viewings. The first one is a very good adaptation of the book.

I don't think a Hollywood equality movement in that era would have been too happy at how Asta was cast in the movies.

Yes, MGM produced a Thin Man TV series for NBC starring Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk for 2 seasons, 1957-59. Naturally, not as great as Powell and Loy, It's still an entertaining show. GetTV was showing it a few years ago, but I don't know if they still are. There are a few episodes on the Internet Archive. I have no clue if it has ever been available on VHS or DVD.

I've only had the VHS set for years but TCM showed all six films this past New Years and I recorded them all. :)

They are all on Amazon but I just noticed something interesting. There is a TCM 4 DVD set of the first four films that I purchased in 2015 for $12 new. Now it appears they want $119 for the same set. Uh!?!

Great- have the dvd box set. Two great stars.
I don’t know why when people agree something is good someone has to ask for a remake. Why not just show/ re release the original. It’s very rare this things are remade better.

    Peace and love✌

For those who subscribe to the TCM/Criterion "Filmstruck" streaming service, it is now carrying all six Thin Man films through the first week in September, 2018. It includes a new introduction from Ben Mankiewicz as well as archival TCM materials where the first film and its stars are discussed by Molly Haskell, Drew Barrymore, and Jane Fonda along with hosts Robert Osborne and Illeana Douglas.

I didn't know much about the series, till I found the box set secondhand last year for $9 and put it aside for a while. Recently got it out, to try the movies with my wife. We loved the first one and are making our way through them. Look forward to watching them all many times. Very convoluted plots in some of them, so I'm glad of the subtitles to help explain things.

She was - but she really hit the wall around ‘45. She also switched to a hairdo which really aged her - check out The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer, in which we are expected to believe she and Shirley Temple are sisters (!)

She also sort of went into part time mode after the US went into WWII. She was the #1 female star in the late 30s, but spent a lot of her time as an administrator/executive volunteer for the USO during the war years, so kind of lost the second half of her career prime.
