I can see that happening after PG but no Houses or PG is crazy.

There was no place left to go after the Runes album but down.

IMO the rot set in after 1971.Not only studio but live.

    To each his own.

I get subjectivity but I've never heard rot applied to How the West Was Won, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti.
I agree maybe you can't go up after IV but I'm just surprised you don't think they at least maintained.

  4. What is your definition of 'the rot'?

I agree that Led Zeppelin peaked with "4". It was a slow decline thereafter. You know....going from 10/10 to 9/10. That sort of decline although IFTOD is a 6 or 7/10. Glad they called it quits when they did.
Now the expanded reissues didn't get great reviews as regards the bonus material and I didn't bother with it but if there is amazing stuff still unreleased, why is this so?
I'll see what the reviews are and go from there.

    Beggining of the end.

    Downward spiral.

    Horse(Heroin)

    Excess.

    All of the above.

    1.HOTH(1973) 3.5 stars
    2.PG(1975) 3.5 stars
    3.Presence (1976) 4 stars
    4.TSRTS (1976) 3 stars
    5.ITTOD (1979) 3 stars
    6.Coda(1982) 2.5 stars

    All subjective obviously.

In the mountaineering world we call what looks like the top but isn't a "false summit", the actual summit was Physical Graffiti :)

Another false summit on the descent with Presence :)

Do they finally reveal the secret of the symbols? Then yes, I care. :)

Agree mostly, especially the horrid ITTOD, but the new Coda box set is an excellent anthology of tunes.

:) I think all three except Zoso have been found elsewhere and described. Zoso appears to be a specific design that Page put together. There have been some lengthy posts on various Zep centric forums about what it means. Quite extensive in their research as well. I forgot all the details though. :)

I would care if all the albums were being remixed.

It's said to relate to his astrology (Capricorn / Saturn). Perhaps we'll never know (until he releases that posthumous book of course). Although most of the symbols (apart from Page's) disappeared from the stage show after about 1973, I was intrigued JPJ put his on the cover of Zooma years later.

Original Zep mixes are great, and there isn't a single engineer working right now I'd want messing with them.

Not to mention, the very people asking for Zep remixes would be the ones screaming about how awful they were when they were finally released.

But just for fun while I'm here, what's wrong with the original mixes?

Nothing wrong with the original mixes :) I meant that I would only care if they remixed the albums as an alternative. Similar to how Sgt Pepper was remixed for its anniversary as an alternative mix.

You know I kind of enjoy that record even if it is a hodge podge of unreleased music.

Maybe I will check the box out.

    Possibly.

Although you rate on a 1-10 scale & I use a 1-5 but I see we are in accordance of our belief' as to the downward spiral of the band.

Runes was the last LZ album I enjoyed as a whole.

Everything post was hit & miss with brilliance scattered about such as Achilles Last Stand, all of side 3 of PG& Nobody's Fault But Mine which I consider to be the best pure LZ sound sounding tune since Whole Lotta Love of which IMO was/is the definitive LZ tune.

I always dug the band opening early shows with a scorching remake of Ben E Kings We're Gonna Groove.

Anyway like I said hit and miss after
    the brilliant Runes LP.

Jimmy cares. Otherwise, he would have nothing to do.
