I'm watching "High Plains Drifter" and I just realized how much I enjoy Clint Eastwood's acting. And of course he's also a great director!

What are your 5 favorite movies starring Eastwood?

Mine are (in no particular order):

    In The Line Of Fire
    Dirty Harry
    A Perfect World
    The Gauntlet
    The Outlaw Josey Wales

    .....hard to choose!

So hard to pick just 5.

    I could easily swap in:

In The Line Of Fire (but John Malkovich steals this movie)
    Dirty Harry
    Pale Rider
    Gran Torino
    Hang 'Em High
    High Plains Drifter

and so on and so on.

I like most of his movies.

(Didn't care much for Unforgiven, Bronco Billy and a couple of the silly ones with the Orangutan.)

I have all of his films up to Million Dollar Baby (plus Grand Torino) on the blu-ray. I always loved watching Eastwood marathons on TBS when I was growing up. He made so many great films, it's hard to narrow it down to five, but at the moment I'd say -

The Good The Bad and The Ugly
    In The Line of Fire
    Unforgiven
    Dirty Harry
    Bronco Billy

I could also have chosen Alcatraz, Kelly's Heroes, Few Dollars More, High Plains Drifter, Josey Wales , Tightrope, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Hang 'em High.... all great.

I haven't seen any of his recent films. Gran Torino was the last. It's amazing how active he is at his age.

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly - for my money (a few $ more?:winkgrin:), this was the best of those "spaghetti westerns"
Magnum Force - my favorite of the Dirty Harry Callahan features
Escape From Alcatraz - based on a true story, but if anyone could escape from there, it would be him
Unforgiven - he deserved to win multiple Oscars for this
Gran Torino - similar to Falling Down, but Eastwood was ultimately more sympathetic than Michael Douglas

I think the only Eastwood movie I have seen is Gran Torino, but I think it is a great movie.

I might have seen Unforgiven, but I don't remember anything about it.

Trivia: early in Dirty Harry, when he foils the bank robbers and has that iconic scene ('You feel lucky today, punk? Well, do ya?') there's a cinema nearby. The movie playing there is Play Misty for Me.

And I'm sure the movie he most regrets taking the role in: Paint Your Wagon. Gotta give him credit for trying a singing role, though.

I have to think about this, but Kelly's Heroes belongs just for the way he sneers at archetypal hippie Donald Sutherland

I'm intentionally leaving out his Westerns, because that could be another list unto itself.

    Kelly's Heroes
    The Gauntlet
    Dirty Harry
    The Eiger Sanction
    Heartbreak Ridge

Honorable Mention - Play Misty For Me
