Yeah, with the internet I've heard all kinds of great rock (and country) from Down Under. I was floored when I first heard Cold Chisel. How did they not have a string of big international hits? Some talked about how the Gibbs and the Youngs were originally from Britain. I didn't see any mention of how Deniz Tek of Radio Birdman was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I have a real affinity for the acts from my home state and I've followed his music since I heard his cover of TV Eye.
Speaking of sharpies, has Lobby Loyde or the Coloured Balls rated a mention? As fierce as MC5 and as uncompromising as The Stooges. David Fricke is a fan. As a whole, Australian music suffers from the "Foster's Lager effect" - bands that are a household name overseas tend to not what are well enjoyed here.
For those who want to delve deeper, I recommend David Kent's chart books. They're pricey, but I've found them invaluable. Australian Chart Books
Don't know what has and hasn't been mentioned but some Aussie bands I dig. Hard-Ons Bored Tumbleweed (saw them open for Mudhoney back in 90/91?) Mt Mountain Hotel Wrecking City Traders Zong
No, you’re not. That is just offensive. Gulpilil is a Yolngu man and a First Nation Australian. You are an immigrant.
