I know that Meryl Streep is considered to be a great actor.
I know people who think she is indeed a great actor, but I also know people who don't think she is at all.

Do you think Meryl Streep lives up to her reputation as a great actor?
Do you think she is just ok?
Or you don't like her acting at all?

    What is your opinion?

I like her and I find her interesting, but I honestly don't know if she really is a great or even a good actor.
Some movies, I thought she was very good in. Some movies, not so much.
I haven't seen all of her movies.
I did think she was great in Ironweed and Kramer vs Kramer.
I didn't like her in Silkwood at all, but I'm not sure if it was her I didn't like or the character she was playing.
Other movies I thought she was good, and others I thought just ok.

I think she's great, and I believe I'm being objective, because I thought so when I saw her earliest performances.

I put her in the Streisand category, though...she's great, but I'm kind of tired of her.

I think she's a terrible actress. Totally Acting School -- always the right mannerisms, never the right manner.

I think she's been playing the same character, more or less, for the past 25 years. I lost my interest long ago.

Personally, I loved her in Silkwood. I think it's the one performance where I connect with her the most. I feel that's the one film where I am never reminded it's Meryl. I always see Karen Silkwood. Same with Postcards from the Edge. She is completely enveloped by the character.

She's also wonderful in The Bridges of Madison County. I love all the mannerisms and hand gestures (like constantly placing her hands on her face). They made the performance much more intimate.

And Death Becomes Her is one of her greatest performances - just a dynamic comedic performance. She and Goldie Hawn were gold in this film. Way ahead of its time.

I know it was trashed but I liked Ricki and the Flash. The most surprising thing about it was that she and Rick Springfield had terrific chemistry and were completely believable as a couple.

I think she was perfect in The Devil Wears Prada.

She has given some great performances but she comes across as a very unlikable person.

I understand but likability (or lack thereof) often translates to the screen.

Acting is a lot like singing. Someone can be a great singer but still not be that great, it depends what they're singing. I don't think she's ever been in a truly great film. Maybe Deer Hunter, which was probably one of her smallest, more understated roles.

I’ve never seen her in anything that calls for her to break out her acting chops. I thought her daughter was terrific in Mr Robot, though.

She’s very good in early roles, but like many actors, falls into a comfortable personae as time goes on.

Almost every actor is guilty of it. Still, she tries to vary it up and seems to put some effort into her performances. I’d say she is the female equivalent of Daniel Day-Lewis which is nothing but a compliment.

Jack Nicholson is another example. He's been Jack doing "fill in the blank" for quite some time.

Yeah, he’s one of many. Pacino is guilty of it as is DeNiro at this point. Then there’s guys that have been themselves their entire career (Eastwood, Wayne) with very few exceptions. No criticism to the aforementioned, people like predicable and entrenched personalities in film, too. It’s comforting.

Yeah? Give me some examples. You have your opinion, but let’s talk about it. What’s “cold” and “unlikeable” about her? She’s had tons of roles.
