The Ventures was the first group I ever liked. Always enjoyed watching him play Apache and the sly smile he would flash when he did the finger wipe thing.

Thanks for the ride. I find myself wanting to collect every Ventures LP I run across.

Rest Easy Nokie. You inspired thousands of kids to buy a Guitar and learn how to play...and I'd bet it kept most of them out of trouble. And you were a Fantastic guitarist, too. The Ventures would not have had their signature sound without you.

You have some work to do. :D
I think they have recorded over 100 albums or so, not all of them with Nokie of course .

I've been grabbing them since I first bought the 45 of Hawaii Five-O. I've made a good dent in collecting them, I have most of the 60's and 70's recording. The latter ones very hit and miss same with the compilations.

Japan EMI has done a nice job on the seminal LPs. Collectibles has some nice 2fers. Also See-For-Miles and Magic have some nice one.

You need a check list to be able to grab them.

I've got some needle drops of their every year Live In Japan LP's.

Part of my teenage years. I was smart enough to get most of their albums on CD when they came out. RIP

I can't believe that this thread isn't at least five or six pages by now. Nokie was one of the greatest
and most influential guitarists in rock and roll history. From the time I was 12 years old (in 1962)
to the the present day his playing was (and is) one of the most important things in my music collecting life.
Younger music fans today probably dismiss the Ventures (their loss) but by doing so they are overlooking
some of the greatest rock and roll ever recorded. Don, Bob, Mel and especially Nokie laid down some of the
hardest rocking recordings ever recorded. They're all gone now except Don, but their legacy will be around
for another 60 years. When Nokie switched from bass to lead in 1962 (and Bob switched from lead to bass) their sound changed forever. Bob was a great guitarist....Nokie became a legendary guitarist. Not only an innovator (he was one of the first to use fuzz guitar) but over the decades he gave us a huge number of jaw dropping solos.
RIP Nokie....and thanks for giving me so much joy over the last 60 years.
(There are a number of Ventures' recordings I could post here, but here's just ONE that shows
the greatness of the group and especially Nokie's brilliance (from 1964)..........)

Man, I definitely enjoy some Ventures, and Nokie was an excellent guitar player. He will definitely be missed.
