The album is excellent all throughout, so picking a fav is really hard. I just went with the first track, Foxy Lady.

Having the US tracks appended in the poll is quite confusing. I ignored those.

Stone Free isn't on the UK album.

In any way, for those who hang on to the old Polydor cd of AYE the old Singles Album cd is a great way to scoop up the remaining goodies.

"The Wind Cries Mary" was the most fully realized and inspired track on the album. Remember, they knocked it out in less than an hour rather than leave recording budget on the table. Near the end of sessions for the album as a whole if I remember correctly.

I too used to think it was incredibly overrated. I don't think the crappy stereo panning helped.

Unlike The Beatles, from what I could tell this album has no definitive version so I took the iTunes route. I also followed the iTunes track listing order.

No. As I mentioned in the original post, it is a combination of the U.K. and U.S. versions of the album.

Me too. It was the first song on the album I even remotely cared for.

I can't vote for a favourite because I love them all so much.
The ones that I love a little less than others would be Hey Joe and Remember.

Those two would be my least favourite as well. I don't like Hey Joe, and Remember's only okay. Both at the bottom of the pile. Highway Chile would also be there if not for the incredible, menacing guitar that sounds so out of place on an otherwise absolute bore of a song.

Tough call. Today: "Third Stone" edging "Stone Free" and probably "Mary" and the title track to follow.

Also always had a soft spot for "Remember"--love that song!

Hey Joe doesn't move me much, but I adore the lolloping feel of Remember and it sounds like a track from my favourite Hendrix album, Axis Bold As Love

"Remember" is good but I think what lets it down is that it sounds like a straight forward Otis Redding song or something. You could even imagine Curtis Knight doing it. Similar also to "Have Mercy" which Jimi had in his repertoire in the early days. Still, it's brilliantly executed and again shows how versatile and complete an artist he was (which is the key to understanding why he was/is far more important than all the "greatest guitarists" that are usually regarded as his peers).

At least some of the riffs were developed in the preceeding years, like Foxy Lady which Jimi played a version of in Nashville in 1962-63. And Third Stone and possibly Red House were played in summer of '66. But yes to put together an album like AYE completely unproven is utterly impressive, like a comet descending on earth...

I would disagree with the opinion that any song is less than stellar. "Remember" is a soul band tune, but it's a really good one.

Pick: title track. No drugs needed to achieve lift-off.

Surprised they haven't released this in a 2 lp configuration to reconcile the different versions.

well with all the early posthumous releases being so dodgy it would seem like a no brainer
