Nils Lofgren? His solo output is underwhelming to say the least.

Wait - so you agree with all the other choices that MarryACarrot (jokingly) posted? Only the Stones lived up to their potential???

Squeeze. Why didn't they make 6 or 7 albums as good as East Side Story?

Terence Trent D'Arby - really enjoyed much of Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby but after that…
Aztec Camera - was hoping for a bit more after such a promising start
The Redskins - I absolutely adored Neither Washington nor Moscow…and then that was it!

I think Margo is a perfect fit for The Cowboy Junkies and vice versa, but to each their own...

Benjamin Orr could have made some fine albums with the right collaborators. Also the 5 Cars should have made another album to redeem Door to Door.

Keith Emerson more than fulfilled his potential.
ELP was a huge, successful act.

A lot of people who died young —Clifford Brown, Jimmy Blanton, Fats Navarro, Paul Chambers, Wardell Grey, Scott LaFaro, even Eric Dolphy and Charlie Parker.

I might vote for Elvis Costello. After his first few albums he seemed to loose focus and try his hand in many different genres that didn't fit his talents. I suppose he might have been following his muse, but at times he seemed determined to avoid success.

He had one, but was too mercurial to keep it going. Of course, Cream didn't really last either, but Clapton can sing. Hi-Ho Silver Lining pretty much answered why Beck stuck to playing guitar.

Disagree. Love Is Hell, Cold Roses, the self-titled from 2014 and his latest, Prisoner, are all excellent albums. The problem with Adams is in the early 2000s he released too much material so the best parts often got diluted through the lesser material. But those albums above are the blueprint for excellent songwriting craft. Just my two pennies.

Grunge killed Ben's chance at a solo career. Move Like This is a great album that "redeems" the Cars even without Ben. jmo.

I agree they are a perfect fit and make great music together. I think they never attained their true potential although I certainly don't know their goals and aspirations. They may be completely happy with their career so who am I to question that. I think, if they'd have wanted it, they could have enjoyed more 'success' (whatever that is, right?).

Margo did record a solo album which I had posted about If you are a fan of Margo Timmins and/or The Cowboy Junkies...
Outside of the Cowboy Junkies she may have enjoyed more 'success' as well. IMHO.m

Frankie Lymon's success was, unfortunately, centered around his prepubescent voice. Maybe if he'd had access to whatever Michael Jackson used to prevent his voice from changing, he could have maintained his success. And not gotten hooked on smack, of course.
