Is it unusual for an artist to have 20 songs you like?

David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails. I listen to everything but this is where I draw the line. haha. I don't get it

  3. Grant

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

And, again, many posters seem to not be able to, or are unwilling to articulate why they aren't so keen on some artists. They just list them.

People with narrow tastes don't want to respond. I find it quite amusing strange when we have those list threads asking people what their favorite artists are, and for pages and pages, most people list the same ones, or very similar ones, then someone always pops up and says how wonderfully diverse the lists are.

I can tell you why I disliked Bob Dylan for so many decades: his voice grates on my ears.

I like Bruce Springsteen, but he gets boring. Again, it's his voice.

I listened to the Steve Miller Band the other night. Fly Like An Eagle. I like him. Problem: narrow vocal range. Most songs are in the same key.

20 is a lot for artists who aren't real big stars. I love Steve Miller but I don't think it's over 20 songs.

Bryan McClean, and Dennis Wilson wrote a few songs that are some of my favorites, 3 or 4 and that's it.

No, I haven't. I just assumed they got a lot more proggy immediately after.

This thread seems more of a "Bands\ groups\ individuals that I can't get into, not my taste" than a "suppose" to thing.

They did kind of. But if you dig yours is no discgrace you should really not miss the next two LPs. You can stop there if you want.

I'll say this: You may have heard they went off the deep end, but it wasn't on Fragile or Close to the Edge, it was after.

I appreciate the nudge. I'll check those out. There's not much excuse now that I don't have to go out and buy them. That was always a barrier.

It's organic development. It's like you got foreplay out of the way, and you know, like close to the edge didn't get named that for no reason.

Really, I envy you to hear those two for the first time again.

    Another one is the MC5.
I got the Stooges first album a few years ago and really liked it.
So I decided to check out the MC5 since the two groups are often spoken of in similar terms.
Well I listened to some of their stuff on YouTube and it is terrible. Among the most unlistenable crap I've ever heard.

ABBA - I can't really find the words to describe how much I don't get them.
Springsteen - I've tried. I'm just missing it, I guess. No clue.
The Eagles - Don Henley must be the biggest jerk in music. The whole thing just seems fake. I do really like Joe Walsh, but only because of James Gang and his solo stuff.

The Beatles ( but that changed when i heard the mono versions).
Those bands who I loved despite the fake stereo are now sounding so much better as mono versions are becoming widely available.

I do enjoy Johnny Cash, but, he's not someone I reach for first- or even 10th- when listening to C&W.

I respect Dave Grohl and think he's a great drummer, but his songwriting is boring. The first two Foo Fighters albums weren't bad at the time though. Anymore it's just bland, inoffensive garbage they play on corporate radio. Wouldn't offend anyone but wouldn't challenge them either.
