Have not heard these reissues, But I'm assuming the Plain was sourced from digital. Music On Vinyl version I have not heard any reviews on it This is regarding The Church - Starfish album
The MOV sounds very much like the most recent CD remasters - pretty compressed. The original Arista vinyl sounds really beautiful.
I don't think anybody is going to disagree with you that the original release is great. That said, IR is a reissue label, and if they are going to reissue The Church, Starfish is a no-brainer. Have you seen any of IR's reissues? They are extremely well done. The Joe Jackson titles are outstanding, and the packaging is gorgeous. I have an original pressing of Starfish too, but I'd be totally down for 2-LP edition from Intervention.
I'm sure they'll do a wonderful job and I'm sure I'll buy it. I understand why IR would want to go for the bands biggest seller as their choice to reissue. As a big fan of the Church, I'm a little sad that this one album gets all the attention when they have several that have never appeared on LP at all.
Great suggestion! I love Lou’s “Ecstasy” as well... recorded at Sear Sound. A legit reissue of this would be welcomed in my house.
The top Church lp's for me would be: Heyday, Starfish, Priest = Aura, Seance, Blurred Crusade and Box of Birds. I bet Kevin Gray cuts from original tapes would be amazing. I also think they would sell-- Especially Starfish and Priest = Aura and Heyday.
Got curious about the Murray Head - Nigel Lived, and researched through All Music. Well, the Giles brothers of King Crimson association are the rhythm section. Possibly even more intriguing is the tuba player, Martin Fry, who did likewise on Robert Palmer - Pressure Drop. Yes, the guy who would go on to sing for ABC!
Also great drummer Cozy Powell is on some songs too. I found Nigel Lived initially by looking through everything Michael Giles played on through Wikipedia and Discogs.
Just listened to “Too Daze Gone” on the Billy Squier album. Wow! A criminally overlooked rock and roll gem. My favorite track on an incredible album.
Heyday would be great too, I LOVE that album. If Starfish does well, I"d like to try that as a regular weight reissue.
Regarding the Starfish expanded CD, what of the extra tracks strikes the fancy of The Church fans here??
