And why? I would think the market for vintage audio is small that it's best to have a 30-day listing to find an interested buyer.. In seven days how can one be sure a buyer will notice your listing? Plus seven day auction has other cons:

    1) Many people won't bother bidding on an item that already has a bid. Why waste time when someone else will likely win it
    2) Who has patience to wait 6+ days to find out you won/lost
    3) Sniping is also very annoying. Many mass collectors use automated tools for sniping. That is a turn off for average joes looking for a good deal.

I would think the end result of all this is that 7-day auction shrinks your market and lowers your selling price..

If you know the price you want then list it at that price and wait for a buyer. Auctions for good stuff will usually get bid up to what people are willing to pay for something. I think it's unusual that something desirable would just get overlooked because of any given 7 day window. I've never not bid on something because there's already a bid in place. Where did you get that idea from?

Because it means you are more likely to lose the auction if there's already a bid.. So why waste your effort putting a bid in and getting annoying "outbid" emails...

Of course, this is for things you don't really care about but just want if they are cheap..

Plus, maybe just me, but I sometimes feel bad about trying to get something that someone else wants. I say, let them have it.. I don't really need it ..

Sure, an iphone is desirable because millions want it. How many people want unheard of brand audiophile equipment that is 40 years old?!

I wouldn't sell any vintage electronics on eBay. Too many changes of getting screwed over.
    Package lost in transit
    Package damaged
    Unhappy customer
    Liar for a customer

All these reasons and others . Ebay always sides with the buyer, then your out your vintage gear.

There are enough people interested in old gear to ensure that the good stuff will usually sell every time. It's not about how many collectors but rather the fanatical commitment of the collectors that exist. Same thing with records.

You didn't say that originally. I don't bid to get lucky. I bid to buy something I really want and pay what it's worth to me. I win some I lose some. Other bidders never stop me.

I mean, c'mon, if you always bid $6 on things that have an established value [based on auction results] of say $250+ yeah, you're not going to win many auctions. You might, but probably not. Knowing this where does the disappointment and frustration from waiting come from? You already know you're just goofing around trying to get lucky. Place the bid and forget about it. Have yourself a little party if you do win.

Like it or not - most of us need and use eBay.

    Tracked shipping cures this.
Insurance and tracked shipping can make certain the responsible party is held liable.
Return tracked and insured shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser in this situation.
Always take pictures during packaging of anything high in value to protect yourself.

If the pictorial and documented evidence clearly supports the seller there's no freakin' way.

I purchased my SCD-1 off of eBay back in 2004 and the seller would not allow shipping to Canada. I turned to a Forum friend here and got him to buy it and ship it to me. Fourteen years later I'm still enjoying my purchase on a near daily basis. ;) When there's a will there's a way.
