I'm excited to report that Record Store Day (April 21, 2018) will see the release of a new E.P. on Entree Records, featuring previously unreleased material by Gene Clark. The six-song E.P. features three previously unreleased songs, plus two songs that appeared on The Lost Studio Sessions ('Back Street Mirror' & 'Don't Let It Fall Through') and the original solo-acoustic demo of 'If I Hang Around' onto which Chip Douglas overdubbed bass/vocals for the 2003 Byrd Parts 2 release.

Side 1: The Leon Russell/Hugh Masekela Session
    Back Street Mirror
    Don't Let It Fall Through
    Yesterday, Am I Right

Side 2: The Chip Douglas Tape
    If I Hang Around
    She Told Me
    That's What You Want

I’m very proud to have been a part of this. Obviously I’m biased, but I think it’s a cool set.

That looks great. Not that I'm likely to find one in a record store in France.

Out of interest - I suppose it's 12"? Although 10" would be even cooler. 33 or 45 rpm?

I've heard that there is a possibility it will. That won't be confirmed until after RSD. Those of you overseas may want to take that into consideration before buying it on the secondary market.

With this, last year's Lost Studio Sessions, and the upcoming Sings For You/Rose Garden demos coming out, us GC fans are very lucky folks!

The only place in France I can think of having it is Gilbert Joseph in Paris.

Several online outlets already take pre-orders.

It’s unprecedented, and I’m so happy to see the floodgates finally opening. I hope the sales will be significant enough to warrant more. Still lots we haven’t heard!

Very cool. I doubt if the music and book store in my local shopping mall will get a copy, but I've asked my go-to RSD friend to buy me one if he sees it.

A digital release will be welcome.

So two tracks here would be unique even after Omnivore release?

Actually all of them. Yesterday Am I Right that's on the EP has a full band. The Sings For You cut does not. None if the other songs are on Sings For You and only 2 were released previously on The Lost Studio Sessions from Sierra Records (Back Street Mirror and Don't Let it Fall Through).

Very cool to have more of this material coming out, but I don't buy vinyl so I'm already looking ahead to what archival release these could be attached to on CD or digital.

There is enough extant material from the 66/7 period to fill a CD release. It's probably a severe case of wishful thinking on my part and very possibly a legal and logistical nightmare to include them all. I am particularly fascinated by this period in Clark's career as he was at his most prolific as a songwriter but so little of it came out at the time.

5 cuts were played at the last Symposium in 2014-That's Why, She's Made Up Her Mind, On The Bright Side, Doctor Doctor and a Long Time. The latter 2 songs are included on the Sings For You release but I believe these are different versions. I'm happy to be proved wrong.

There are a further 12 songs in demo format according to Johnny Rogan which includes Only Colombe and Back Street Mirror. The full list can be found here:

The Clarkophile: Interview with Johnny Rogan, author of Byrds: Requiem for the Timeless, Vols I & II

There are a further 6 songs which were copyrighted during the period but I don't know if they exist- Sometime And Again, Too Many Days, The Way That I Feel, Maybe You Think, While You're Here and Along The Way.

I suspect ‘Maybe You Think’ is, in fact, also known as ‘Past Tense’ from Sings For You.

I don’t see how easy you could miss
Don’t you realize where she is?
Or maybe you think she’ll always wait
‘Cause you see her standin’ there again
