I'm not a hip hop hater but I'm largely ambivalent towards Cardi B.

I thought they didn't give her a very good mix.

I didn't realize that Bill Hader and his wife Maggie had just finalized their divorced a few weeks before he hosted the show. I'm not sure I would have been up for such a task had I been in the same situation.

Tonight’s host, John Mulaney, wrote Stefan with Bill Hader. He talks about it here.

  7. Funny episode.
Didn't think I'd like John Mulaney, but I did.

What he said, but my problem would be I just can't stay up that late...

    “Ladies and gentlemen, John Mulvaney!”

They fixed that goof for the west coast rebroadcast. Sometimes I worry about Darrell.

I thought I had misremembered his name, or something.
Weird thing is, I thought Darrell prerecorded his openings. Maybe not anymore.

The Mulaney monologue was funny, the rest of the show, not really.

The next episode will be a dual one. Actor Donald Glover will be host and Childish Gambino (also him) will be the musical guest.

Much better than the last couple/few which I wasn't expecting. Enjoyed the music too which is rare...

The two highlights - the lobster sketch and the Switcheroo sketch- were both co-written by Mulaney nearly a decade ago. I was wondering how the show could go from dire to deleriously funny in a week. Strap yourselves in for next week...
Not much doubt that Jack White was doin' it live. God bless 'im ! :uhhuh:

I thought it was the best episode in a long time. Having a host who is actually funny and can do a monologue helps and he must have helped writing a lot of those sketches.

It was even more than that. They had a host who is funny, a skilled stand-up, an experienced SNL sketch writer, *and* had a bank of untapped material that was accessed for at least two sketches. When you are trying to crash almost 60 minutes of material together in a week, those are all tremendous assets.

I'm not a Leslie Jones or Pete Davidson fan. Overall, I'm not into around half of the shows' cast.

Lorne must have it in for sketches featuring lobsters. Atomic Lobsters was another elaborate sketch that took a long time to get to the air.

He was a good guest host. I enjoyed Deniro and the Meet the Parents as a topical parody.

I've said this before, possibly in this thread, but you can measure your cultural age with SNL.

30 and above: You don't know and don't like the musical guest

40 and above: You don't know and don't like the host.

50 and above: You don't know what's being made fun of. Often rationalized with "It's no longer funny."

60 and above: On too late, I'm going to bed.
