The main reason I like bands mostly is if the repeat themselve. Tomato soup should taste like tomato soup.

They got their name from a Beatle that's as close as it gets.

Someone said Pavement. I disagree. I do however put Steve Malkmus in this category. It has turned me from being rabid fan to somewhat indifferent towards his solo output. I hope this new LP changes my mind. So far so good.

I risk some wrath here but there's a couple of bands who, if I put one of their albums on, I sometimes find it difficult to name the album. I love these bands to bits, particularly The Cars, so it's not a criticism.

The Cars - Candy-O, Panorama, Shake It Up. The debut is pretty unique and they're admittedly starting to change their sound by Shake It Up.

Asia - first 3 albums (I don't know the rest). The first two I find fairly indistinguishable (but prefer the second, unlike most people I think).

Oh, and Travis. I'd have a hard time naming which album any song is off.

That more or less seems to be the gist of this discussion, yes. "Artist I don't like" = "All their stuff sounds the same!":rolleyes:

    Let the good times roll...

ok then lets put this to death now. ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch, francesco zappa, LSO, thing fish, jazz from hell, broadway the hardway .... etc etc .... the only thing that possibly sounds remotely close is the production. the albums are absolutely nothing alike in any way whatsoever. the thread says same album over and over. to suggest that zappa fits that category in any way shape or form would purely suggest that you are deaf ... sorry

My father insists that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers went to a studio in 1989 and spent three days (high as kites) recording constantly. Now, every 5 years they cut out an hour of those tapes and release them as their new LP.

    I'm with him on that.

I should have clued into that. It made about as much sense as The Clash and The Beach Boys.

Certainly not The Clash. The difference between their debut and Sandinista is huge.

I feel Bryan Ferry has been making a similar record since Avalon, but of course that would dismiss the early part of his career with Roxy Music, which included very different albums to those later on.
Therefore the obvious candidates would be the metal bands like AC/DC and Iron Maiden. What you get is pretty much what it says on the tin. I would have suggested Fleetwood Mac (the Buckingham-Nicks version), but Tusk rules this suggestion out. How about everything except Tusk?
