My new phone does MQA. When these get released, I'll be the guinea pig a get one and see how it sounds compared to a high yes file
The only thing of interest here is that some of these are new "2018 transfers from the original analog master tapes" I had a quick skim and these are indicated as new: Velvet Underground 461 Ocean Boulevard "part" of Pet Sounds Endless Summer (though partly from 2014) John Barleycorn Must Die Brothers & Sisters Fire & Water Royal Scam Aja Jazz all seem to be derived from older transfers and the classic stuff too. Crying shame these aren't SACD, and they are expensive with it. But hang around long enough and they might issue them in SACD I guess, as happened with most of the unique platinum titles.
Hi Toilet_doctor, You are right about the FORS. That is why i always recommend it to record companies. But some of them would like to stick to what they have done on the master, so they don't want us to do anything else to the master. Just straight to the production line!
Hi Toilet_doctor, Fabio from audionautes in Italy is the guy who did the reissue of La Spagna LP, SACD & UHQCD. He really liked the sound he did with the mastering engineer, so i asked Memory Tech to press UHQCD directly from the master he supplied. Surprisingly he wrote me a long message about how excited he was after listening to the UHQCD version. Then he made it on Crystal Disc which is of course even better sound reproduced. What my experience told me is that if same master are used to press SACD and UHQCD without any further mastering, very often people like the sound of UHQCD than that of SACD.
Few more titles i have been able to translate.,supertramp, sex pistols ,dire straits ,tears for fears ,roxy music, brian ferry three rolling stones ,10cc,the who, wishbone ash ,genesis, loads of cds you have not got i dont think.
Correct, there stacks of others but they are not new master tape transfers, and reuse the transfers from previous SHM-SACD releases and Platinum SHM releases so aren't interesting (to me). While the new fangled format maybe lossy gubbins (I have no interest) - the CD layer should be good (and new, for the titles I listed above).
Well if they didn't wish to bother with (hybrid) sacd authoring one might as well of used hdcd and be done with it as how many people are gonna reinvest in MQA dacs or players? Alright two player in this house have coaxial spdifs I could get one and fit it but I doubt if many folk will simply because for the majority music is a while you're doing something thing and not a prime focus.
Beat me to it! At least it will be "the height of the master reproduction capabilities such as rose freshness of like sound"
Hi Andymodern, Thank you for your comments, info, and especially for your enthusiasm and your involvement in the new format. I've started too many threads, and it's hard for me to keep up. I have some new UHQ releases that I plan to talk about after AXPONA (High-End show arrives in Chicago). We will talk...
New release from Columbia/Sony, Japan added 3 more titles to Better Days 40th Anniversary series, changing UHQCD logo to more simple one: Jan. 31, 2018 Steps Step By Step Steps Paradox Steps Smokin' In The Pit (2 UHQCD) You can see new logo in the bottom right corner, it should be printed around the disc's center hole similar to SHM-CD marks. (translation) "Step by Step [UHQCD] / Steps The first studio album of Steps formed by Michael Brecker 's willingness to work on straight - ahead jazz. A 4-beat with a square feeling that is not a trio of jazz, gave a fresh surprise to the scene. 1981" Paradox [UHQCD] / Steps "Five piece band, the third installment of Steps with Michael Brecker, Eddie Gomez, et al. In September 1981, live recording work at home ground, NY live house "Seventh Avenue South". Creating new jazz in the form of acoustic jazz, the fate of contemporary jazz began here from the 1980s." (comment on Paradox) "Awesome tunes performed by great musicians Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Eddie Gomez, Don Grolnick and Mike Mainieri. A must have CD for any jazz music lover." (2011) Smokin' In The Pit [UHQCD] / Steps "It is a masterpiece of Steps, a group that was in the beginning of the 80's, a place where there was a world of fusion in the fusion of the fusion. Michael Brecker, Steve Gadd and all the members are NY's leading musicians Roppongi "Step In" live. Kazumi Watanabe participates in 2-3 as a guest. It is spreading the new generation 4-beat jazz. 1988" While retail currently is $18.69 (due to the market drop), importCDs offers them below the retail ($16.69): https://www.importcds.com/search?q=(UHQCD)&mod=AP&sw=The Steps (watch out after 3:30)
Three more titles of the NY fusion band 24th Street Band were released by Columbia/Sony in their "Better Days 40" series: Jan. 31, 2018 24th Street Band S/T 24th Street Band Share Your Dream (Manhattan) 24th Street Band BO KU TA CHI (Live in Tokyo 1981) 24th Street Band [UHQCD] / 24 Street Band "An album of fusion band led by Hiram Block who was popular in Japan. Only songs who have been polished by studio work are lined up with songs far exceeding the level of mere session sound sources. 1979" Manhattan's dream [UHQCD] / 24 Street Band "Thrill, speed, and technique. Sound that funky energy burst. A second popular group in the 80 's of the 24 - chome band, when fusion caught up with the highest as a hip band filled with New York' s spirit and mood. Songs are the original of each member, covering vocal numbers in "Black Hole Strut" 8 songs. 1980" BO KU TA CHI [UHQCD] / 24th Street Band "It is a live record of the four-person group of New York, including Hiram Block of guitarist, in Japan in 1981. Hibiya Nozon, an album containing a pattern of live at the postal savings hall. Contents full of tension that only boasts of transcendental skill." Review "Guitarist supreme Hiram Bullock, bassist Will Lee, keyboardist Clifford Carter and drummer Steve Jordan, all incredible New York session players in the 1970's, joined together to record original what was then called "fusion" - a combination of rock and jazz. They were big in Japan and so the CDs are Japanese. The cover gives away their true location, 24th Street in New York, as it is an old NY subway token. (I think the rides were around 25-50 cents then.) The whole band wrote and sang. You can hear one of the songs, "Full Time Love" on youtube. The rhythm section of the band went on to join with keyboardist Paul Shaffer when David Letterman needed a band for his new late night show in 1982. Bassist Will Lee is still with the Letterman show. Sadly, Hiram Bullock died in 2008. This album is a collector's item of the highest magnitude." (2008) Again, ImportCDs went lower than retail price ($16.79): https://www.importcds.com/search?q=(UHQCD)&mod=AP&sw=24th Street Band New York City Strut by The 24th Street Band Not Too Much to Give - The 24th Street Band
More and more titles are available now through US retailers. Here are over 20 classical titles released by Uni Japan on 03/16/2018. Many of them are 2 and 3CD sets (Karajan's operas and such) and went out of stock already, but they will get them back in stock, I think. https://www.importcds.com/search?q=%28UHQCD%29&mod=AP&sw=Universal#!?pagenum=1
I am going to purchase Steely Dan The Royal Scam because it was never released as a SHM sacd or Platinum SHM cd.
Actually that spray paint was very good for curing jitter on CDs. And it didn't taste too bad either.
