Saw this today. John Curl designed. Even has his autograph on it:

Model Halo JC 5 « Parasound

Noticed on their product line that they skipped JC 4.

  2. Looks like a stereo version of the JC1.

This certainly looks to be a suitable Amplifier, it fills the gap between the A21 and the JC1's. I love the look of the Black Halo Line.

Looks incredible. Nice touch with the signature. Would love to have one.
Those cans remind me of my SX1250 coke cans:)

And I as well, but at 6K Retail, I'll have to wait and find a good used one:sigh:

    Plenty of power there.

  8. Maybe it is a product that is still in development.

I think we all know why there is no JC4 and there will never be a JC4. In the eyes of the Chinese, 4 is generally disliked by people just as 13 is in the western world. This is because Four is pronounced Si in Chinese, the same as the word for death.

Most likely it’s because the number 4 is considered extremely unlucky in many Asian cultures and anything containing the number 4 is avoided at all costs.

Edit: Metralla beat me to it!

When you say "we all know"... you can now include me in that category because I sure as S*** didn't know that.

Not too many speakers that wouldn't be fine with this amp pushing. Still doesn't have the current of the JC1 mono blocks. But a beast of an amp regardless. I bet it sounds sublime.

  15. Why would “we all know” this? I have never heard that before. Frankly, I doubt that is the explanation. Parasound could market a JC4 model with a different name in China if they were concerned about Chinese sales.

Sorry BB, I was not patronising the forum members, as I did think it was common knowledge. I guess you won't be changing your career to an exporter of goods to China.

I’m in the market for separates again. Top contenders are thus far Pass and Parasound amps. Was seriously looking at Pass INT/30 or INT/60 till I found out they don’t have tape loops or a rec out feature. Too bad. On to separates! Had just about made my mind up on the Halo A21 till this new JC5 business came up. I agree it looks like a great proposition.

That is quite a jump in price and performance from the A21 to the JC5. I purchased my A21 for about $1600 used obviously.

I would say that this is most definitely not common knowledge. But I think that your guess as to why the number has been skipped is as good any anyone's. Now let's all begin the speculation as to why there is no Windows 9... ;-)

Still a few integrated out there that are full featured. Parasound’s own Halo Integrated, Peachtree Nova 150/300’ Rogue Pharaoh come to mind immediately.

  23. No problem—no offense taken, just confusion! I do thank you for educating me on this. I live in an area with a large Chinese immigrant population (largely students, visiting professors, and post-docs) so it is good for me to know this information. My daughter socializes with a lot of kids from China and I’ll ask her if she is aware of this.

  24. It could be the explanation—I imagine China is a big market for Parasound—but they also could just rename the product.

Here is another thought—perhaps the Halo Integrated occupies slot number 4? Not sure if JC designed it, though.

I’d love to try this amp. Just replaced my HINT and would have bought this to replace it had I known about it. The HINT was great by the way and can hold its own against much pricier gear. The JC5 definitely fills a needed gap in their line up.
