I’ve asked her several times. She says she wants a “real” stereo...

Take a look back at post #2. If you spend $200 or $400 (your stated budget) you're more than likely going to be in the same performance category so why not save some money while getting top of the line performance within your budget?

Crutchfield teally likes the Klipsch R-15M with this amp. They also suggest the Polk RTi A3 on closeout...

You are probably not going to go very wrong with any of the brands mentioned in these last few posts. I think you will get more flexibility going with the front ported designs if she will be in small apartments and the speakers inevitably need to be closer to walls as I assume there won’t be stands used—which is certainly understandable in this situation. I have come to really appreciate fully enclosed or front ported speakers in tight quarters.

As I posted before, if you can swing the RP-150M it's a much better speaker.

I haven't read up thread very far but noticed a mention of the Klipsch R-15M. I bought these to pair with a fleawatt ChiFi amp in a home office set up and they are fantastic together. I was prepared to hate the R-15Ms because of the Klipsch "harsh, shrill" reputation, but needed something very affordable that was very efficient. I have been shocked by how much I enjoy them, maybe because they have the edge taken off by the tube amp, dunno, but in any case for near field they have been great, and affordable.

Haven't heard the XB's, but I have heard the PSB Imagine B's. They sound very, very good, as do most PSB speakers. I doubt the XB's will go as deep as the Elac's if bass is important. Best thing you could do is take your daughter for a listening session. Let her pick out the music she wants to listen to and let her decide.

In a perfect world, this would be great. But she just wants me to choose for her...

Then get her the Andrew Jones ELAC speakers, those for the price work well. I love them in space challenged environments, rpd, you know my ear, it's discriminating.

Probably also need to find a decent looking speaker too. That Polk A3 is pretty good looking too...

Ok, I just snagged what look to be a really nice used pair of PSB Imagine B’s in my price range in the cherry finish, which look really nice. Hopefully, a good choice.

Won’t have them till next week.

    I’ll report back

    Final set up

    NAD D 3020 v2
    Rega P1
    PSB Imagine B’s

Should be a great set up...

    Thanks for all the suggestions

That's going to be a great sounding little system! Hopefully lots of her friends will get a chance to hear how a nice affordable system compares to their iPhone and earbuds!

I had them for awhile. Great, accurate little monitors. Beautiful wood veneer. Amazing value when <$500!
