Bob Dylan's Street Legal. I don't remember anyone saying anything positive about this one in '78; it was the first time I'd seen a Dylan record in the cut-out bin shortly after it was released. Regardless, it's one of my most listened-to Dylan titles.
That whole thing was like putting chicken tikka masala on spaghetti. Two great things that *really* don't work together.
Blows Against the Empire - Paul Kantner/Jefferson Starship One of my favorite albums. I have four copies of the original release, which sort of defies reason. But that’s OK. Here’s an excerpt of the review by Ed Ward in the February ‘71 issue of Rolling Stone. I don’t think Ed liked it. “If Paul Kanter really thinks that the pap he’s serving up here is a blow against the empire, I suggest he take a bowl of oatmeal and a spoon and start throwing the oatmeal at some building he’d like to see topple, just to observe how long it will take.”
Killing Joke are infamous. special acquired taste ! i love the shIIIIt outta them !!!!!!! some of my fav tunes with Ministry first few, and The Cure. some amazing music. metal since birth, but i have some guilty pleasures !!
Elton John - Blue Moves Fleetwood Mac - Tusk Bob Dylan - Planet Waves (My faves of each artist) My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges Jack White - Boarding House Reach Arcade Fire - Reflektor
I love Tales From Topographic Oceans by Yes. I think it’s a masterpiece. Nothing else like it out there.
I love ELP’s Works 1. Palmer is smoking on his side and Lake’s side is lovely. Pirates and Fanfare are great. Works 2, pretty damn weak.
The bashed albums that I like are usually because I was in a really good place when they came out, and they bring back a lot of great memories. For example, Heart's "Private Audition" came out right when I graduated from high school, and Asia's "Astra" came out when I graduated from college. In any other time or place, I probably wouldn't have given them a pass!
