I saw it some years ago- and it is now a cultural trope about how dumb we have become as a society. I laughed at moments but, to me, it's the kind of film that is better in concept (or memory) than in execution.
I think an even darker, less tongue in cheek film could be made today but I just catch news instead.

True, but a lot of women liked Office Space.

    When I saw it I thought “It’s a really fun movie. “

But can you imagine a world where people are more into an aggressive sick burn than an intellectual argument or a world where science is ignored and neglected and the people don’t seem to care either way? It’s too hard to believe.

    :)

Actually, I'd never heard of Idiocracy until my girlfriend suggested we watch it. It's one of her favorites. But then again, she's not like most women (and I mean that in a good way).

  5. It’s okay, but definitely a disappointment after Office Space and not nearly as clever as some folks like to think it is.

I tend to agree. There’s some good ideas in the film, but, overall, it’s not great. A bit sloppy and suffers from what seems a very low budget. Still, I like it.

I picked up the HD version on iTunes because there is no BluRay of Idiocracy anywhere in the world. Film got tons of press during the last election - major newspapers dropping references left and right - but Fox didn't capitalize on the free promotion at all.

And Judd was going to shoot some commercials last year featuring the President Camacho character but Fox wouldn't give him permission to use that character, either.

I don't think the reason why they refused to release the film for more than a year ever came out, but it seems clear that someone or some company involved in it is on a blacklist.

  9. Yes, it describes our world perfectly today.

Me also as well in addition to.
Well, maybe I don't like the movie all that much per se. But I love that it was made, I love that it was made by the guy who gave us Office Space, and I love that it flew under the radar, only to be "discovered" somewhat later -
    sort of God's Little "I-Told-You-So".

I think the slashed budget and studio non support made it difficult to meld into a seamless production.

The studio WAS contractually obligated to put it in theaters. I recall reading the articles about it either when it came out or when the DVD was released.

Deleted a bunch of posts which skewed political. Understand the impulse given the film's satirical nature, but we don't do that here. Also had to delete some responses that were not overly political, but no longer made sense in context. Apologies if your comments were part of the baby that was thrown out with the bathwater.

Please try to steer clear from political discussion or analogies. Thanks!

Also, I only reviewed the last couple of pages, so if there is political trolling upstream, either report it or at least do not take the bait.

One of my wife's favorite cable shows is Impractical Jokers. Guess I lucked out in that department.

I'll simplify my thoughts: It's a crappy movie and, no, doesn't reflect reality today.

No, just give it another 200 years like in the movie.

I've seen a downturn in my lifetime...

I'd put another movie in the same 'this IS a good idea, but, it's missing blah, blah,blah.../it's mix of silly comedy and lofty ideas are just not.... I don't know... JELLING?' category is "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy"!

Anybody notice, Terry Crews was on The Daily Show last night? I mumbled out to my wife, "hey, did you know Terry played The President once?" Hard for her to imagine, since she's never seen Idiocracy.

    I like money....:D
