Angus was my first pick. I also think Billy Gibbons is quite the riff meister

Charlie Parker was straight up thriving on a riff.

Another Iommi vote. I prefer Blackmore as a lead player but DP songs didn’t have nearly as many riffs. One of my absolute favourites is Ty Tabor from King’s X. First four albums especially are full of spectacularly heavy and catchy riffs.

Yes, the thread title should be "Who's the greatest riff-meister -- after Keith Richards, of course?" The guy's touring stadiums in his seventies, and most of the crowds are there for songs based on his riffs.

An incredibly simple riff but one from which a great song was built around was the Stones "I Can't Get No Satisfaction." In terms of Stones riffs, I far prefer "The Last Time" which, I presume, may have been created by Brian Jones.

Frankly, rock is such a limited idiom, I think the world of riffs has been delimited by all the great ones already out there. But a great riff is just that . . . a great riff.

    Definitely Tony Iommi.

I'll also give a nod to Josh Homme, I think his recorded output from '91 - 2002 (Kyuss/QOTSA) is amazing. So many great riffs from that period. That first QOTSA album, every track is based around an awesome riff.

I’m not a big Pumpkins fan, but I would say is essential. A lot of really high quality stuff.

    Gotta go with Jimmy Page.

Keef is right up there, as are Tony Iommi and Ritchie Blackmore.
