When adding stuff to discogs collection, how do you know if you have the right version?

I have 1 LP & 3 singles to add (all Japanese pressings). These are not listed on Discogs.
Want to make I enter everything correctly.

Be careful with WLP listings. I listed an album that was a white label promo and put white label as part of the details but someone reminded me that "white label" should only be used for releases that have a white label (ie no writing). What we all call WLPs are just referred to as Promos. Easy to fix but a good reminded if you aren't too well versed with Discogs listing guidelines as it's an easy mistake to make. :)

The ones I mentioned are Japanese pressings.
I didn’t want to make a separate listing for the promo (so I added the notation to the one in my collection).
I’m only thinking of adding the ones in my collection (that are not on Discogs). These are not promos.
But it’s a good idea to checkout the Discogs guidelines.

Good question. I once tried to buy a Beatles single (Love Me Do) and wasn't quite happy with the sellers description. Turns out, it was a re-release. If I hadn't asked a few times, I would have ended up with the wrong version.

Darryl, can you resize your image larger, add the back and the record itself say 480 pixels in height? This height seems to be good when using the curser magnification function.

I got the picture online. It was the only clear one available (beside a few eBay images).

Darryl, is this the same album with the Obi? I've temporarily posted it but can change it back if it's not.

I found it here copied it to my documents then took it into Photoshop and did my magic. ;) :shh: All I did was size it and add some contrast.

I used to have a massive David Cassidy/Partridge Family collection, so I had a lot of the stuff listed.
    Can't believe the crazy prices.
I have a few more Japanese 45s to possibly list when I get around to it.
I have to double check to make sure there are no listings (or pending submissions) before I make my attempt.

    Just added my second submission.

    David Cassidy - Daydream

The only thing I have a problem on is uploading pictures.
I can always go back & edit photos later.

Discogs has issues with the size of the image. If you keep it to 600 x 600 pixels or smaller it should work fine. Also, it only allows posting images directly from your computer so a copy and paste scenario does not work.

Thanks for the tips. I usually save the image to my computer first.

Technically, the image is supposed to be of the actual copy you own, and submissions should only be made if you physically have a copy. This is to ensure that you don’t carelessly copy a cover image online that isn’t the correct match to the pressing.

Another thing is to once you've uploaded a new release, you should go link it to the master release so that when doing a quick search, someone else doesn't upload another version of the same release if they check the masters for verification it's not on there. Just simply edit the master release copy and paste the release code, but take away the [r...] part.

How do I link my listing to the master release page?

    1. Note the release number of your listing
    2. You go to the master release page and click "Edit Master Release"
    3. On the resulting page, click "Edit Master Release" again
    4. Scroll down to the Releases section on the master release editing page
    5. Add the release number of your listing
    6. Click Preview/Submit
Discogs has extensive, very detailed how-to information on its site.

And the how-to is just as indecipherable as the site’s interface. Discogs has perhaps the least intuitive design possible and no one on staff is capable of writing in clear, detailed sentences.

Just added another release to discogs (I'm learning).

Glenn Miller And The Army Air Force Band - The Band Of The Army Air Forces Under The Direction Of Capt. Glenn Miller Four Complete 1943 And 1944 Broadcasts

It's linked to the master release page and the page for the record label.
Also Edited the master release page for my David Cassidy single Daydream (Japan).
