Why are sellers taking so long to ship?

Not here. Forum sellers are music enthusiasts too and tend to ship fairly quickly. I'm talking about eBay, Discogs and the Amazon Marketplace. Of the last ten things I ordered, eight took a week or more to ship. Not to arrive, just to get out the door. With more and more sellers using slow delivery methods like SmartPost, SurePost and so on, things take forever to arrive.

I both buy and sell. As a seller I try to get things out the door on the day they're ordered, or the following morning at the latest. If I can reasonably upgrade the shipping to a faster class, I do, even if it costs me a few cents more. Why would any seller need a week to get something in the mail?

A lot of sellers do not store their medium at their residence from what I've gathered, unlike us.

They're awaiting final ruling on Net Nutrality...if it gets gutted, they can get away with shipping slower, and the music still arrives sooner than if you were to buy a download..:p

Expedited definitely makes a different with them! The last few times I've ordered from them and didn't expedite it, it took rather a long time, but I ordered something from them on Friday and said, "What the hell, let's pick Expedited Shipping and see what happens." And I received it today.

Import CDs via eBay for vinyl went from KY, past Nashvegas, up to Pittsburgh (same as other members are also reporting), then <crickets> on the tracking for several days, then voila ! It appears at my post office. Thank God they used bombproof packaging for what was literally 8 vinyl records, and 2 jackets, and a box.
That is Media Mail, which was free, and worth every penny.

I'm not talking about Amazon or Import CDs or the like. They're pretty much the same as ever. I'm talking about small vendors. I just cancelled one because I ordered on the 5th and they were anticipating shipping it on the 15th.

On the subject of bigger retailers, I ordered a single CD from Amazon UK. The tracking says shipped on the 5th and delivery expected on the 26th. It says delivery by Asendia. Most previous orders from Amazon UK were sent Royal Mail and arrived in 7 to 10 days. Is Asendia a cheaper, slower service?

I haven't really noticed any change but perhaps you've purchased from drop shippers which usually take longer to ship?

Media Mail. It's great, and also sometimes fast, sometimes slow. So what?

I'll tell ya so what. The longer a package stays out there, on tour of the entire country, the more it gets handled, and the odds go up for it being damaged.
An extra $1.00 or $1.50 brings it up to Priority, and instead of it going on tour, it arrives at my door in 2-3 days, because it took the direct route.
The thinking behind buying an expensive, valuable item, and then choosing the cheapest method of shipment is to me, beyond logic.

I've never had a problem. So there's my logic. :)

Then you're damn lucky. My last, I mean last album purchase from Elusive Disc was literally broken in half. Two pieces.
I avoid the Grand Tour of Media Mail every chance I get.

My latest albums purchase from Import CDs via eBay featured free shipping. I rolled the dice. The box went from Kentucky, past Nashville, to Pittsburgh, where it sat for nearly a week. Luckily Import CDs used a bombproof box like I've never seen before.

I was sad to see Ernie B's go under. Talk about bulletproof packaging. They said your item would never arrive damaged, and they meant it.

Craig Moerer is pretty amazing too ! My latest is a 45 of Sinatra's That's Life that looked like it's not only 1966, but in a clean box, packed securely. For only a few bucks profit, that's taking pride in your business.:righton:

Definitely. Although we all miss Ernie B's, Ernie has a new company called Millions Of Records.

"After the unfortunate events at EBrecords (the sale and eventual demise of the company) I'm glad to tell you that I am working hard to build it back up again. I have launched this new, simple website just to get the ball rolling. I realize that it lacks the features you enjoyed at EBrecords (search filters, mp3 sound samples, user-friendly interface, etc.) I am working on the main website now, which I hope will be launched in a few months. In the meantime, I figured it was better to provide you with a simple website rather than none at all. Please make do as best as possible until the main website is launched later; I promise it will be worth the wait!" -Ernie B

I was thrilled to see that Ernie was going to open a new shop, but so far I'm really unimpressed with the stock.

Definitely. The old ErnieB site always stocked a wide variety of genres and artists, but I'm not seeing any Ace Records or Bear Family titles as of yet.
